Congenital agminated melanocytic nevus - case report

Abstract: Agminated nevus is a cluster group of melanocytic nevi confined to a localized area of the body. There are many pigmented lesions described in the literature as agminated, such as blue nevi, multiple lentigines and Spitz nevi, but only a few cases of congenital agminated melanocytic nevi have been described. We report a case of a male child who presented with congenital agminated nevi, emphasizing the importance of physical examination, dermoscopy, histopathological evaluation, differential diagnosis and follo… Show more

“…[26][27][28][29] As dermoscopy improves the detection of melanomas, 30 its use was suggested in the monitoring of congenital melanocytic naevi (CMN), especially the smaller CMN. [31][32][33] Sequential digital dermoscopy imaging can also reduce the unnecessary excision of suspicious pigmented skin lesions. 34 This has been emphasised in children with epidermolysis bullosa who are at risk of developing skin cancers, and in whom overtreatment of the fragile skin should be avoided.…”

“…Agminated melanocytic nevi are characterized by the presence of multiple cutaneous clustered nevi 1–3 . These lesions can arise on an underlying nevus spilus, normal‐appearing background skin, after radiation or chemotherapy, and in immunosuppressed states 4–10 .…”

“…
Agminated melanocytic nevus is a rare subtype of melanocytic nevi in which congenital or acquired melanocytic lesions are usually clustered on normal background skin with a linear, unilateral or segmental distribution resembling the lines of Blaschko. [1][2][3] The term agminated is derived from the Latin word "agmen," which is referring to aggregation or clustering of the lesions usually in a segmental pattern. 1 Different melanocytic tumors can occasionally

“…appear as agminated lesions. [1][2][3] In these cases, the agminated macules dermoscopically lacked background pigmentation, unlike speckled lentiginous nevus. This appearance of agminated nevi was linked to the clonal proliferation of cells originating from a somatic mutation at an early stage of embryogenesis in congenital variant; however, in acquired cases the pathogenesis is not clear yet.…”
