Abstract: The 2013 St. Gallen consensus updated the definition of intrinsic molecular subtypes and increased the number of patients classified as having luminal B-like breast cancer in our series, for whom the use of cytotoxic drugs will probably be proposed with additional treatment cost.

“…Breast cancer, the cancer that originates in the breast tissues, is divided into five types based on its molecular characteristics: Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2 enriched, basal like/triple-negative, and other special types of breast cancer [ 23 ]. The response to treatment and prognosis varies with the type of breast cancer.…”

“…According to variations in the expressions of the estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), breast cancer were defined as four major intrinsic molecular subtypes: luminal A, luminal B, HER2-positive and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) (Sorlie et al 2001). TNBC is characterized by a lack of expression of the ER and PR as well as HER2 (Serra et al 2014). TNBC that occurs mostly in premenopausal young women represents approximately 15-20% of all invasive breast cancers (Foulkes et al 2010).…”
