Transtornos mentais e comportamentais (TMC) são síndromes caracterizadas por distúrbios clinicamente significativos na regulação emocional, cognição ou no comportamento de um indivíduo que refletem uma disfunção nos processos biológicos subjacentes ao funcionamento mental e comportamental. Em geral, esses distúrbios estão associados a prejuízo no âmbito pessoal, familiar, social, educacional e ocupacional. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo descrever o perfil epidemiológico das internações hospitalares relacionadas a transtornos mentais e comportamentais no estado do Piauí, no período de 2016 a 2022. Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico descritivo, retrospectivo com abordagem quantitativa, utilizando dados disponíveis no site do Departamento de Informática do SUS (DATASUS) e gerenciados pelo Ministério da Saúde nas Informações de Saúde (TABNET) sobre Morbidade Hospitalar do SUS (SIH/SUS) relacionado as internações por transtornos mentais e comportamentais. Para realização deste estudo, foi selecionado o período de tempo de 2016-2022. Segundo a Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS), em 2011, a prevalência dos transtornos mentais na população mundial encontrava-se em torno de 10%, excedendo 25% ao considerar episódios durante todo o curso da vida. Os transtornos mentais estão presentes em diferentes faixas etárias com um destaque na faixa etária de 30-39 anos, ademais foi visto que ocorreu um aumento com o passar dos anos. O presente estudo destaca a necessidade de maiores pesquisas voltadas ao conhecimento do perfil epidemiológico das internações transtornos mentais e comportamentais no estado do Piauí, para que assim os dados sejam divulgados para toda comunidade garantindo um melhor atendimento da população mais acometida pelos transtornos e a comunidade geral.
