“…The genera Lejeunea, Cheilolejeunea, and Frullania were the most representative in our study, as already reported in Maranhão (e.g., Peralta et al 2011;Macedo and Ilkiu-Borges 2014;Brito and Ilkiu-Borges 2014;Oliveira et al 2018b) and in the Northeast Region (e.g., Bôas- Bastos and Bastos 1998;Bastos and Yano 2006;Valente and Pôrto 2006;Yano and Peralta 2006;Siqueira et al 2011;Oliveira and Bastos 2014;Silva et al 2014;Germano et al 2016).…”

“…The importance of Lejeuneaceae has also been reported for the Amazon, Atlantic Forest, caatinga (shrublands) and pantanal (swampland) in Brazil, as well as for French Guiana Lisboa & Ilkiu-Borges 2001Lisboa & Tavares 2008;Yano & Câmara 2004;Pôrto et al 2004;Campelo & Pôrto 2007;Siqueira et al 2011;Valente et al 2013;Câmara & Vital 2004;Gradstein 2006). In addition, Gradstein et al (2001) reported that more than 70% of the liverwort species found in neotropical forests belong to Lejeuneaceae.…”

“…In the study by Siqueira et al (2011), the most abundant species were S. subpinnatum, Orthostichopsis praetermissa, and Henicodium geniculatum. In the other works consulted (Costa & Silva 2003;Visnadi 2005;Santos & Costa 2008;Valente et al 2009), it was not possible to ascertain the most collected species.…”

“…When examining the distribution of acro and pleurocarpous mosses in the Atlantic Forest, the data show a balance, with three studies (Oliveira et al 2002;Costa & Silva 2003;Siqueira et al 2011) showing the occurrence of more acrocarpous than pleurocarpous mosses, and three studies (Visnadi 2005;Santos & Costa 2008;Valente et al 2009) showing the opposite. Note that we used only those studies in which there was a complete list of mosses and families, and those wrongly applied in a category were corrected using the criteria proposed by La Farge-England (1996) and Goffinet et al (2009).…”
