Abstract: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: Two-Year Follow-up of the Initial Southern Brazilian Experience Background: Aortic stenosis is a prevalent disease with high morbidity and mortality, whose classical approach is surgical valve replacement. Elderly patients and those with other comorbidities present high surgical risk. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation is an effective alternative to standard surgery. The objective of this study is to report the 2-year follow-up of the first cases performed in South… Show more

“…Throughout the following, we verified the occurrence of a perioperative death, sudden death and death from noncardiac causes, totaling 15% of the sample. The remaining patients showed improvement in functional class, significant immediate decrease in the gradients between the left ventricle and the aorta and increase in valve area [28].…”

“…Among the probable factors, we can mention atrioventricular block during the procedure, pre-dilatation with balloon, prosthesis size, interventricular septum increased diameter, prolonged QRS duration, and team experience [38][39][40] . This study has some limitations such as having no control group, the sampling was small, highly selective with patients pertaining to a single center with no correlation to other types of anesthesia (e.g., deep sedation), which may represent a local reality.…”
