AbstractIn Brazil, during the 1960s, ocurred a rapprochement between various artists and artistic movements, of varied languages and forms of expression, which took place both in the field of politics and aesthetics. Before 1964, what approached them were the possibilities of artistic engagement and interpretation of nationalpopular themes. After the coup, their rapprochement came as variations of cultural resistance for strategic struggles against the dictatorship. This paper shall therefore discuss the approach of exponents of the Teatro de Arena with some icons of the emerging MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) which, in the political plane, can be analyzed under the category of elective affinities and, in the aesthetic plane, as a result of the polyphony.
