Abstract:Objective: Assess the profile of eye drops in patients with eye diseases. Methods: Studies available in the scientific literature were identified without any time limits using the databases Embase-Medline, Scielo, Scopus and Web of Knowledge. The selected studies were compared with the following inclusion criteria: (i) if the study evaluated the eye drop instillation, (ii) if the study involved participation of patients with eye diseases. Results: Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria. Of them, 83.33% evaluated the technique of eye drop instillation in patients with glaucoma, 8.33% in patients with eye diseases and 8.33% in patients with cataract after undergoing surgery to correct. 41.66% of studies have chosen to record a video of patients to analyze the technique of instilling eye drops and 41.66% did not describe the/esearch location. Regarding the type of study, 75% had the design as prospective cross-sectional, 8.33% prospective open label study, 8.33% intervention study and 8.33% study called masked trial. Although studies evaluate the technique of eye drop instillation, only 8.33% describe in the article the reference in the literature used to evaluate patients. 50% of articles acknowledged some sort of bias or limitation. Conclusion: The limitations inherent in these types of studies should guide future research.

São apresentados aspectos relativos a evidências, validade e confiabilidade dos resultados dos estudos nesse campo. É imprescindível que ocorra adequado planejamento da pesquisa, desde a definição do delineamento e do tipo do experimento, passando pelos aspectos éticos, escolha da população e cálculo do tamanho amostral até a avaliação da factibilidade dos riscos envolvidos na sua condução. Após a coleta das informações, as etapas seguintes correspondem à descrição dos resultados, análise estatística, verificação da consistência desses resultados e, ao final, sua adequada interpretação. -The mistaken use of biostatistics in scientific research involves methodological errors both in the research itself as in its analyses. Among these, the lack of sample size calculation, considered essential for validation and credibility of results, is often found. The aim of the study was to determine how often sample size calculation is used in articles published in Physical Education national journals. The study included only national scientific journals ranked as A1 and B2 by the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), which analyzed only articles available in full and published in the period from 2010 to 2012. Review articles, letter to the editor, points of view and original articles that did not perform any statistical analysis were excluded. Approximately 15 % of articles analyzed performed sample size calculation and no difference between these proportions over the years were identified. Differences between Physical Education subareas (education, health and sport) were observed, being lower in sport (p = 0.001) compared to other subareas. Journals classified as B2 showed higher use of sample size calculation in relation to those classified as B1 (p = 0.013) and A2 (p = 0.007). The use of sample size calculation in scientific research published in Physical Education national journals in the period from 2010 to 2012 was not satisfactory, especially in sport subarea. Moreover, no evolution on the use of sample size calculation over the years analyzed was observed. Key words: Physical education; Sample size; Statistics.
