-This paper aims at characterizing the tree species natural regeneration and evaluating the relation of this stratum to both the adult component and the environmental variables in a fragment of a cloud forest in Santa Catarina, Brazil. In each of 25 20 × 20 m plots, where the adult component and environmental variables have previously been evaluated, subplots of different sizes varying according to plants' height were then allocated as follows: Class 1 -plants with a height varying from 0.15 cm up to 1 m, being evaluated within 5 m 2 ; Class 2 -plants with a height varying from 1 up to 3 m, being evaluated within 10 m 2 ; Class 3 -plants with a height greater than 3 m and DBH smaller than 5 cm, being evaluated within 20 m 2 . Data have been analyzed with regard to the determination of diversity (Shannon index), evenness (Pielou), Natural Regeneration Index (NRI), similarity with the adult component (Jaccard and Bray-Curtis), floristic-structural organization (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling -NMDS) and their relation to environmental variables. A total of 518 individuals distributed in 28 species were sampled. The low values of Shannon index (2.51 nat/ind) and evenness (0.75) suggest low diversity and elevated ecological dominance. The highest NRI has been found in the species Symphyopappus itatiayensis (Hieron.) R.M. King & H.Rob (19.36%). The similarity with the adult component were of 0.45 (Jaccard) and 0.24 (BrayCurtis), demonstrating a low overall similarity (<0.50). The soil compaction was the only variable that has shown a relation with regeneration, which can be related to cattle's presence in the fragment.Keywords: Phytosociology; Araucaria Forest; Forest management. Similaridade entre Adultos e Regenerantes do Componente Arbóreo em Floresta com Araucária

RESUMOO estudo objetivou inventariar o componente arbóreo regenerante em uma floresta no Planalto Sul de Santa Catarina e compará-lo ao componente adulto da mesma área. Foram alocadas 25 parcelas, onde os regenerantes e adultos foram identificados e quantificados. Foi calculado o Índice de Regeneração Natural Total (RNT) de cada espécie. Para verificar a similaridade entre os componentes, foi utilizada a Análise de Similaridade e o índice de Jaccard. Foram amostrados 503 regenerantes, pertencentes a 58 espécies e 29 famílias. Myrtaceae foi a família de maior riqueza (13). Leandra regnelli (Triana) Cogn., Myrcia splendens (Sw.) DC. e Miconia cinerascens Miq. apresentaram os maiores valores de RNT. Houve elevada dissimilaridade entre regenerantes e adultos, sendo que 37,5% das espécies do componente adulto não tiveram representantes na regeneração natural. Conclui-se que existe uma baixa capacidade regenerativa da maior parte das espécies, o que pode estar associado à presença de gado na área.Palavras-chave: fragmento florestal, Índice de Regeneração Natural Total, floresta ombrófila mista. RESUMOObjetivou-se avaliar as alterações na organização de uma comunidade arbórea causadas pelo efeito de borda em um remanescente de Floresta com Araucárias no sul do Brasil. Foram instaladas cinco transeções de 100 x 20 m na área de estudo, perpendiculares às bordas florestais, subdivididas em dez parcelas. Foi definido como setor borda a distância de 0-50 m e o interior, após 50 m. Todas as árvores com circunferência na altura do peito ≥ 15,7 cm foram mensuradas, identificadas e classificadas em guildas de regeneração. Os setores foram comparados por meio do teste t, para variáveis com distribuição normal, teste de MannWhitney, para distribuições não normais, rarefação, para a riqueza, e teste de qui-quadrado aplicado a uma tabela de contingência, para verificar a distribuição dos indivíduos das diferentes guildas de regeneração. A setorização em função da borda e interior representou uma importante fonte de heterogeneidade florestal, uma vez que a parte mais marginal do fragmento caracterizou-se por apresentar um componente arbóreo de maior densidade, menor altura média e predomínio de indivíduos de espécies exigentes em luz. Do ponto de vista de conservação da biodiversidade da Floresta com Araucárias, o presente estudo sugere a necessidade da conservação de fragmentos cujo tamanho e configuração espacial permitam a existência de áreas de interior, com o propósito de contemplar a proteção de espécies não tolerantes às condições de borda. ABSTRACTThis study aimed to evaluate changes in the organization of tree species communities due to edge effects in a forest remnant in southern Brazil. Five transects were installed in the study area, perpendicular to the forest edge, with the dimensions of 100x20 m, subdivided into ten plots. The edge sector was defined for the distance of 0-50 m and the interior for the distance of 50-100 m. All trees with circumference at breast height ≥ 15.7 were measured, identified and classified into regeneration guilds. The sectors were compared using the t test for normally distributed variables, Mann-Whitney test for non-normal distributions, rarefaction, for richness, and Chi-square test applied to a contingency table, to check the distribution of individuals of different regeneration guilds. The sectorization as a function of edge and interior represented an important source of forest heterogeneity, once the most marginal part of the fragment was characterized by a tree component of higher density, smaller average height and prevalence of individuals of light demanding
