The use of Brazilian vegetable oils in nanoemulsions: an update on preparation and biological applications

Abstract: Vegetable oils present important pharmacological properties, which gained ground in the pharmaceutical field. Its encapsulation in nanoemulsions is considered a promising strategy to facilitate the applicability of these natural compounds and to potentiate the actions. These formulations offer several advantages for topical and systemic delivery of cosmetic and pharmaceutical agents including controlled droplet size, protection of the vegetable oil to photo, thermal and volatilization instability and ability t… Show more

“…It has been considered to be a major disadvantage in relation to fish farming, since it hinders making these compounds available in water. Nanoemulsions offer several benefits, including sustained release, increased absorption rate and therapeutic potency and reduced toxicity and drug concentration (Bajerski et al, 2016). They may also improve the low water solubility of EOs and their major compounds.…”

[102] It is also possible to use a crude extract from argan press-cake as sole emulsifier to stabilize nanoemulsions. [100] Paper [101] presents methods of forming nanoemulsions their properties and applications.…”

“…Cosmetic products based on vegetable oils help protect the skin from excessive fluid loss, allow skin respiration and assimilate sunlight (1). The oil extracted from Babassu (Orbignya phalerata Martius) coconut almonds has generated interest in the cosmetics industry, becoming a major candidate for application in cosmetic products, mainly for topical use (2)(3)(4). Babassu is the generic name given to the oil palm trees belonging to the Palmae family that are members of the genera Orbignya and Attalea.…”
