“…A descriptive study conducted at a hospital in Rio Grande do Sul with 252 volunteers showed that previous knowledge of non-pharmacological care and identification of the symptoms of congestion were correlated with adherence to treatment. This study further found that low adherence to pharmacological or non-pharmacological treatment was one of the main causes of decompensation of HF in 92% of the participants (19) . Therefore, by helping the patients acquire knowledge about HF and its treatment, the nurses play an important role because they promote adherence to healthy behaviors.…”

The literature shows that the establishment of the professional-patient relationship is essential to help identify problems and develop mechanisms to overcome them; stimulating the patient and increasing contact with them can become good strategies to prevent poor adherence and succeed in treatment (29). Even if the telephone contact is recognized as a valid method for conducting research in food and nutrition, one phone contact was insufficient to increase the adherence to the dietary prescription in this study (35).…”

The results showed 11% of the sample had low adherence to drug treatment, while 82% reported low adherence to non-pharmacological treatment (29).…”

“…[26][27][28] Therefore, regarding the monitoring of heart failure patients the need for effective interventions able to improve adherence and self-care prevails. Due to the high occurrence of the disease in adults over 65 the presence of a caregiver often becomes necessary for greater treatment efficacy 3 , besides family involvement.…”
