Abstract: O saber medicinal tradicional é essencial para resolver problemas de saúde e para mitigar dores, nos países da América Latina. Há mais de uma década, o Instituto de Investigação Científica Tropical (IICT), em Portugal, vem pesquisando espécies vegetais usadas por cidadãos de baixa renda, assim como por adeptos da fitoterapia. “…In fact, the interaction between oxidative stress and inflammation has been widely explored, identifying the interfaces between these mechanisms, that is, the state of "inflamming" increases the ROS production, favoring oxidative stress, in the same way as oxidative stress promotes the activation of inflammatory pathways and together are involved in chronic and degenerative conditions (Reuter et al, 2010).
