Purpose To analyse the immediate effect of a vocal warm-up program on children that sang in a choir by means of spectrographic analysis. Methods Experimental study consisting of 14 girls from an amateur children’s choir, aged 9 to 12 years. Acoustic spectrographic analyses were performed before and after a specific vocal warm-up program, consisting of a hierarchical sequence of body exercises, respiratory and articulation training, vocal exercises, ascending and descending musical scales and facilitating sounds. The speech material for spectrographic analysis was the sustained /Ɛ:/ vowel, pre and post warm-up program. The selected acoustic parameters were instability of trace, noise at low and high frequencies, frequency bifurcation, harmonics series, presence of a hard vocal attack, pitch and voice breaks, and mean fundamental frequency. Results No significant differences were found regarding the effect of the vocal warm-up when pre and post data were compared. However, there was a negative correlation between the level of harmonics and noise in the high frequencies post warm-up. Conclusion The vocal warm-up program implemented for children that sang in choirs produced a richer acoustic spectrum that may indicate enhanced glottic closure or vocal tract adjustment.

Purpose: to verify, with the auditory-perceptual and acoustic parameters, the occurrence of voice changes in children with no voice complaints, per sex. Methods: the registers of 36 children with no voice complaints, aged 6 to 8 years, of whom 19 were males, were assessed. The databank consisted of the recordings of sustained vowels, sentences, and spontaneous speech. The auditory-perceptual analysis was conducted with the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice, and the acoustic analysis, with VoxMetria. The fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, noise, and glottal-to-noise excitation ratio were analyzed. The Mann-Whitney test was applied for numerical variables, and the McNemar test, for the categorical ones, at the p < 0.05 significance level. Results: of the 5 children with mild voice changes, 4 were males. The most frequent resonance deviation was the laryngopharyngeal one. There was no difference between the sexes in the auditory-perceptual findings. The fundamental frequency in the group with changes was lower than that in the group without changes. There was a statistical association between the changes in the auditory-perceptual assessment and the acoustic parameters. Conclusion: voice changes occurred in 13.89% of the studied sample of children with no voice complaints, without differences between the sexes in the auditory-perceptual parameters. Vocal deviations were in a mild degree in all children who had them, the most frequent ones being roughness and breathiness. The fundamental frequency and shimmer were the acoustic parameters whose values most often occurred outside the reference limits, in both genders.

Introdução: A voz ocupa um papel muito importante na vida das pessoas desde a infância e somente com uma boa saúde vocal pode ser estabelecida uma comunicação eficaz. Objetivo: Analisar a qualidade vocal de crianças com idades entre 7 e 8 anos, identificando a prevalência de algum aspecto vocal e verificando a percepção dos pais em relação à voz de seu filho. Material e métodos: Estudo transversal, realizado com escolares e seus respectivos pais, onde os dados foram coletados por meio da gravação da voz e analisados através da Escala RASATI. A percepção dos pais com relação à voz de seu filho foi avaliada através de um questionário. Resultados e discussão: A soprosidade foi a qualidade vocal mais encontrada nas crianças (76,47%), seguida de aspereza (41,17%), rouquidão (35,29%) e tensão (17,64%). Referente ao questionário, 44% dos pais relataram alteração vocal quando seu filho fica nervoso, 52% quando grita muito e 56% quando volta da escola, festas ou jogos. Dos bons hábitos vocais, 92% referiram beber água, 88% dormir bem e 84% descansar. E dos hábitos vocais ruins, 76% dos pais consideraram falar muito em lugares barulhentos, 60% respirar pela boca, 52% tossir e 44% gritar. Conclusão: Os pais percebem as alterações vocais que os filhos apresentam e procuram alternativas de melhora, porém não sabem identificar hábitos saudáveis ou prejudiciais à voz. Assim, nota-se a importância das orientações aos pais sobre os cuidados vocais das crianças. Palavras-chave: voz, qualidade da voz, distúrbios da voz, criança, comportamento infantil.
