Avaliação da sobrevida livre de doença em pacientes com carcinoma epidermoide de laringe submetidos à tratamento radioterápico exclusivo ou associado à quimioterapia

Abstract: In early stage (I and II) laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, both surgery and radiotherapy results in significant local and regional control. In advanced tumors (III and IV), radiotherapy alone has local-regional control rates of 32-43%. Aim: To assess disease-free survival in SCC laryngeal carcinoma patients submitted to radiotherapy alone and/or associated with chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study involving 84 cases of laryngeal SCC treated with radiotherapy or chemotherapy together with … Show more

“…Due to sample number disparity, regression models were not applied to the therapy type category. In advanced cases (stage III-IV), survival rates were lower, as expected, and similar to results from other studies [ 7 , 16 , 31 ]. High DSS rates indicate that the longer we follow the patients, the greater the chance of an event and death from diseases unrelated to the primary process, which is reflected in a low OS rate in our patient group.…”

“…Studies often report a five-year median follow-up, while our research had a 76-month follow-up. Real-world studies with a five-year follow-up and a higher number of patients showed figures of 83%, 96%, 76.7%, 164, and 82–87%, respectively [ 16 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ]. The Kaplan–Meier curve showed statistically significant results for treatment modality in OS, DSS, and DFS.…”

“…In the European study of Lefebre et al [ 33 ], the disease-free survival at five years was 25% for chemotherapy and 27% for immediate surgery. In another study, the global five-year disease-free survival was 47.5% (38% in patients undergoing radiotherapy only, 49% when chemotherapy was added, and 45% in cases with induction chemotherapy for chemoradiotherapy) [ 34 ].…”
