Use of the plasma CTX for assessing the bone activity of the mandible among osteopenic and osteoporotic patients

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine whether the plasma CTX bone remodeling marker is useful for indicating the bone metabolic activity level of the mandible. Thirty-six patients were selected; all were postmenopausal and aged 50 years or over. In accordance with the WHO criteria for osteoporosis, a control group was set up (n = 10) in which the T-score was greater than -1 and a diseased group with Tscore less than -1. Using MDP-99m Tc samples, the radioisotope uptake in the femoral neck (R 2 ) and mandibula… Show more

“…Some studies advocate the use of sCTx for predicting the risk of developing ARONJ, 101,[128][129][130][131][132] while others question its utility. [133][134][135][136][137] Because some recommendations address the use of sCTx, this section will examine the limitations of sCTx as a risk predictor for ARONJ; and will discuss why the panel does not recommend the use of sCTx for ARONJ risk assessment.…”

“…Avolio et al (22) realizaron un estudio para determinar si el CTX serológico es útil para indicar el nivel de actividad metabólica del hueso mandibular. Seleccionaron treinta y seis pacientes, de los cuales 10 se encontraban sanas y 26 enfermas, todas eran posmenopáusicas y mayores de 50 años o más.…”
