has been the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union since 2001, and he "has presided over the most successful membership growth in the ACLU's history and more than doubled national staff and tripled the budget of the organization since he began his tenure."* Founded in 1920, the ACLU has focused on the protection of freedom of speech, association and assembly, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, equality before the law, right to due process and right to privacy. It has today more than five hundred thousand members and litigates six thousand judicial cases a year.* In this interview, Romero discusses the relationship between the ACLU and the human rights movement.
