Mechanical behavior of the shear-patch loading interaction on transversally stiffened steel plate girders

Abstract: In this paper, the behavior of the intertwined shear and patch loading mechanisms in transversally stiffened steel plate girders is described. The phenomenological insight depicted in this paper shows the influence of the web thickness and the flange yield strength as well as the influence of the transverse stiffeners on the stress distribution, the critical loads and on the equilibrium path of this particular type of loading. A previously validated numerical model is used systematically as a simulation tool. … Show more

“…However, there are still some uncovered issues as for instance, in the patch loading case the available formulae were developed for short loading lengths [15][16][17]. Some works related to this influence have been presented for ultimate load capacities rather than for elastic critical buckling loads [18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. Therefore, this paper aims at investigating the influence of the loading length on the buckling coefficients and transition rigidity for longitudinally stiffened girders subjected to patch loading.…”
