Objective To estimate the prevalence of overweight among teachers in Minas Gerais during the Covid-19 pandemic and to review relevant gender associated factors. Methods Cross-sectional and analytical study, websurvey type, carried out with 15,641 teachers of public Basic Education in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data collection took place from August to September 2020 with the use of a digital form. The dependent variable was overweight, calculated by the body mass index using the teachers’ self-reported weight and height. Poisson regression was used, with robust variance. Results Among the participating teachers, 52.4% were overweight. When stratified by gender, 51.1% women and 58.2% men were considered overweight, with a significant difference between them (p<0.001). There was a higher prevalence of overweight among women in the age group of 30 to 59 years (PR=1.39) and in women 60 years or older (PR=1.45) living in the metropolitan region of the state (PR=1.06) who had children (PR=1.19), who were not exercising (PR=1.09) and with a worse dietary pattern during the pandemic (PR=1.12), much afraid of Covid-19 (PR=1.04) and with anxiety and/or depression during the pandemic (PR=1.14). Among men, there was a higher prevalence of overweight among those individuals aged 30 to 59 years (PR=1.19), who lived with a spouse (PR=1.15) working more than 40 hours per week (PR=1.12) and those with the worst dietary pattern during the pandemic (PR=1.10). Conclusion The results showed a 52.4% prevalence of overweight teachers and different associated factors between the genders.

OBJECTIVE:The aim of this study was to describe the anthropometric characteristics, eating habits, and lifestyle of non-village indigenous women living in Manaus, AM, and their association with hypertension. METHODS: This cross-sectional (descriptive-analytical) study was carried out from January 2020 to December 2021 using a questionnaire for clinical, sociodemographic, and behavioral data. Non-pregnant women who belonged to Parque das Tribos for more than a year, declared themselves indigenous, and were over 18 years of age were included in the study. RESULTS: In total, 21 ethnicities were identified, and 95 indigenous women were evaluated. The average age group was 36±12.1 years, the average height was 157 cm, and the body mass index was 28.8 kg/m 2 . The prevalence of systemic arterial hypertension was ±40%, and 68.5% had excess weight, with 29.1% having class I obesity. In all, 35.8% consumed a lot of salt, sugar, and industrialized foods, and 88.4% were sedentary. CONCLUSION: Much of the sample presented excess weight, and almost all were sedentary. More than one-third had unappropriated eating habits. Hypertension was present in more than one-third of these indigenous women. There was an association between higher body mass index and hypertension. Knowing the characteristics of this group of non-village indigenous women may help determine the best health approach. The data demonstrate the necessity of preventive measures.

Objective: To identify the prevalence of and factors associated with diabetes mellitus in rural traditional communities. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out in 115 rural communities distributed in 45 municipalities in the state of Goiás, including: 13 river communities, 51 quilombolas and 63 agrarian reform settlements. Probabilistic sampling was performed, and participants were selected at random. The outcome variable was self-reported diabetes mellitus, while exposure variables were sociodemographic, lifestyle, health conditions and access to health services. Multiple regression was used to determine the association between study variables. Results: Among the 2,537 participants, the overall prevalence of diabetes was 9.8%, with 13.5% in river dwellers, 10.0% in quilombolas and 9.3% in settlers. Factors associated with diabetes were negative self-perception of health, being a former smoker, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, and living in a river community. Conclusion: The results reinforce the need to strengthen strategies for the prevention and control of diabetes and its complications in rural populations, especially among river dwellers.
