“…7,12,14 This improvement was demonstrated by both objective measurements 13 and patient questionnaire assessments. [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22] Oxybutynin therapy does not demonstrate tachyphylaxis and patients continued to note symptom improvement in long-term studies. 15,[20][21][22] Methantheline bromide therapy for primary hyperhidrosis was assessed in a single randomized controlled trial 29 and showed a decrease in the symptoms of hyperhidrosis using both subjective (HDSS scoring) and objective (gravimetry) measures.…”

“…40 When comparing the treatment outcome related to gender, there was no significant difference in improvement, with symptoms relief in about 70% in both groups. 41 Nor overweight or obesity was considered limiting factors for treatment, as 67.8% of patients with overweight and 63% obese showed significant clinical improvement. 42 When patients over 40 years were analyzed, 48 subjects between 40-49 years and 39 patients older than 50 years had significant improvement (75% in the first group and 87.2% in the second), with emphasis to the fact that most of the older patients had a high level of improvement.…”

“…The difference in the efficacy of oxybutynin has been reported to be statistically nonsignificant when comparing gender [33]. A retrospective analysis reported that 67% of men and 70% of women with primary focal hyperhidrosis who were treated with oxybutynin reported partial or greater improvement.…”

“…Over 70% of the women in the study comparing the differences of oxybutynin treatment between genders classified their QOL as ‘very poor' prior to treatment, which demonstrates that women, in addition to seeking medical assistance more frequently, are also more affected by hyperhidrosis than men. On the other hand, women benefited the most from oxybutynin treatment, presenting a ‘great improvement' in the level of hyperhidrosis in over 40% of the cases [33]. …”
