This study aims to evaluate the outdoor environment conditions (synoptic weather conditions) on extreme events of human thermal discomfort in the city of Pelotas, Brazil, between 18th January and 20th August, 2019. Digital thermohygrographs were installed outside the residences in order to record of air temperature data, dew point temperature and air relative humidity. Five different macro-regions of the city were analyzes applying two different biometeorological indices. For the summer months, the Humidex Index was used, and for fall and winter, the wind chill index was used. The findings showed that the afternoons during the summer months were the most thermally uncomfortable, while the nights presented the greatest sensations of comfort. In the winter months, the opposite occurred: afternoons with more comfortable periods and nights with more thermally uncomfortable periods were observed. It was also noted that in the situation of extreme heat stress, in the summer, there was the influence of the South Atlantic Subtropical Anticyclone (SASA) on the region, which, in association with the low humidity of the air on the continent, favored, then, the extreme discomfort sensations. Likewise, situations of extreme discomfort due to cold that were also associated with low air humidity, and high atmospheric pressure systems (not necessarily the SASA), which caused drops in temperature and dry air.

In this investigation, we formulated the Ecosystem’s Health Provision Spectrum and its centrality indicators, based on the identification of the Ecosystem Health Potentials and Opportunities on the trails of Santo Sepulcro and Riacho do Meio in the Araripe UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG), establishing a baseline for the promotion of green exercise and geotourism in the territory. Based on the network methodology for complex systems, we analyzed the closeness and strength of biotic, abiotic variables, nature phenomena, infrastructure, and sensory experiences in order to determine the configuration of these associations. In the Santo Sepulcro, regarding the association, two negative relations and two positive relations among the variables were highlighted; as for closeness and strength, Aquatic Diversity with the Scientific Values of Geodiversity stood out. In Riacho do Meio, we highlight three positive associations among the variables; as for connectivity, Biodiversity and Meteorological and Climate Exposure presented the highest values and, as for strength, the variables Biodiversity, Route Classification, and Aquatic Diversity were the most prominent. We conclude, based on the presented configuration, that the variables with greater connectivity act as hubs; if these variables are optimized, the network will present an acceptable theoretical configuration. However, neglecting central strength variables can cause the network to collapse.

Quantificação dos impactos da climatização artificial na sensação térmica de transeuntes em termos de alterações no microclimaQuantifying the impacts of air conditioning on the thermal sensation of pedestrians in terms of changes in microclimate [a] Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, Curitiba, PR, Brasil [b] Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil ResumoO presente estudo analisa efeitos do uso de ar-condicionado na sensação térmica devido a interferências na aclimatação de indivíduos no espaço aberto, a partir de estudo de campo no centro do Rio de Janeiro. Campanhas de monitoramento foram realizadas em períodos quentes entre 2012 e 2015, com uso de estação meteorológica concomitantemente à aplicação de questionários estruturados segundo a ISO 10551, aos quais se incluíram questões acerca do uso de ar-condicionado. O índice de conforto utilizado para interpretar dados microclimáticos foi o UTCI (Universal Thermal Climate Index). Dos resultados obtidos, notou-se que o uso frequente de ar-condicionado impacta a percepção térmica dos usuários, interferindo na definição de limites de conforto. Verificou-se uma queda de 2°C em unidades UTCI para uma situação de início de estresse térmico por calor para o grupo menos aclimatado (usuários habituais de ambientes climatizados artificialmente), fato que sugere redução na tolerância térmica ao calor dessa população. A partir dos resultados encontrados e para o desenvolvimento da área de conforto em espaços abertos no Brasil (cuja maior parte do território apresenta clima tropical), no que tange a levantamentos de percepção térmica junto à população, recomenda-se a introdução do questionamento acerca do uso de ar-condicionado.Palavras-chave: Microclima urbano.
