Influence of root canal sealer on the radiographic appearance of filling voids in maxillary single-rooted teeth

Abstract: ObjectiveThis study compared the influence of three epoxy resin-based sealers with distinct radiopacities on the observers' ability to detect root canal filling voids during radiographic analysis. Material and methodsThe root canals of 48 extracted maxillary canines were prepared and divided into three groups. Each group was laterally condensed with one sealer (AH PlusTM, Acroseal® or a non-radiopaque sealer), and a longitudinal void was simulated in half of the specimens from each group (n=8). Buccolingual ra… Show more

“…Although the radiographic method was initially used in dental research at the beginning of the Twentieth century to study the internal anatomy of teeth (Fisher, 1908), the systematic assessment of root filling quality in extracted teeth was done only several decades later. In some studies, while the radiographic quality of root fillings in extracted human teeth was the single parameter evaluated (Bodanezi et al, 2012; Elshinawy & Ajmal, 2012; Gutmann et al, 1993; Jalees et al, 2018; Kositbowornchai et al, 2006; Kumar et al, 2016; Obeidat & Abdallah, 2021; Robia, 2014), in others, different methods (sectioning, leakage) were also included (Al‐Dewani et al, 2000; Aminsobhani et al, 2015; Beyer‐Olsen et al, 1983; Brayton et al, 1973; Dummer et al, 1993, 1994; Gilhooly et al, 2000; Kersten et al, 1986a, 1986b, 1987; Yee et al, 1977; Youngson et al, 1995).…”
