Clinical and antimicrobial efficacy of NitrAdineTM-based disinfecting cleaning tablets in complete denture wearers

Abstract: ObjectiveThis study evaluated the efficacy of NitrAdineTM-based disinfecting cleaning tablets for complete denture, in terms of denture biofilm removal and antimicrobial action. Material and methodsForty complete denture wearers (14 men and 26 women) with a mean age of 62.3±9.0 years were randomly assigned to two groups and were instructed to clean their dentures according to two methods: brushing (control) - 3 times a day with denture brush and tap water following meals; brushing and immersion (experimental) … Show more

“…Alkaline peroxides are composed by oxidant, effervescent, surface tension reducers and chelating agents commonly found in tablet or powder forms, which in contact with water become hydrogen peroxide solutions (1). Some studies indicated that the association of alkaline peroxide to brushing improved the effectiveness of hygiene (7,8).…”

“…Previous studies have shown that as the complete acrylic removable denture gets older, it becomes harder to remove the biofilms from its surface due to the increased surface roughness as well as the change in the acryl nature (1,19). Therefore, immersion of complete dentures in soluble containing cleaning tablets for 15 minutes can only be effective on newly-formed biofilms (less than 24 hours).…”

“…The number of people who have this problem is growing due to the increasing world population age. Complete denture replacement is one of the most common treatments for this problem (1). Complete denture replacement changes the bacterial flora of the mouth, and since this treatment is used mostly in elderly patients with low physical abilities and low immunity and those who usually have systemic diseases requiring medical treatments, it changes the balance of mouth microflora and increases the colony forming unit (CFU), and thus, may cause oral infections (1-6).…”
