Abstract. The use of photoelastic analysis contributes to the rehabilitation of patients with oral-sinus-nasal sequelae, which in turn affect important functions such as chewing, swallowing, and speech. The prosthetic rehabilitation with implant-retained dentures is a suitable treatment option. The purpose of this study was to verify, by using a photoelastic analysis, the stress distribution in implant-retained palatal obturator dentures (relined or not) associated with different attachment systems (O-ring, bar-clip, and bar-clip associated with distally placed O-rings). Two photoelastic models were obtained from an experimental maxillary cast presenting an oral-nasal communication.One model had two 13-mm length implants placed on the left region. A total of eight colorless maxillary obturators were fabricated and subsequently four of them were relined with soft silicone soft, and three had attachment systems associated. The assembly (model/attachment system/prosthesis) was positioned in a circular polariscope and a 100-N load was applied at 10 mm∕s. The results showed that the denture relining influenced the distribution and amount of stress on the models. The O-ring group displayed the lowest stress levels, followed by bar-clip system associated with distally placed O-rings and bar-clip groups.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of different disinfection solutions on flexural resistance of chemically-activated acrylic resin. Test pieces were made of clear acrylic resin using a rectangular mold and employing two techniques: wet polymerization under pressure (n = 20) and dry polymerization under pressure (n = 20). Test pieces were subdivided into four equal groups: distilled water (control), sodium bicarbonate, 1% sodium hypochlorite and effervescent ats. The 30-day cycling technique consisted of immersing the test pieces in 100 ml of solution for 10 min three times a day and placing them in closed containers containing artificial saliva at 37°C. Subsequently, the flexural resistance of samples was tested. Data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with forces serving as the dependent variables and the polymerization technique and cleaning agents as independent variables. Post hoc multiple comparisons were performed using Tukey's test. There was no statistically significant difference in the flexural strength between the two polymerization techniques. The greatest flexural strength was observed for the effervescent tablets group followed by the control and 1% sodium hypochlorite groups which were statistically similar. Thus, the sodium bicarbonate solution caused the lowest flexural resistance of the test pieces.

ÖZETAmaç: Bu çalıĢmanın amacı uzun süreli silikon esaslı yumuĢak astar maddelerinin renk stabiliteleri üzerine farklı protez temizleyicilerinin etkilerinin değerlen-dirilmesidir. Materyal ve Metod: Bu çalıĢmada 2 farklı silikon esaslı yumuĢak astar maddesi (Elite Soft ve Ufi Gel P) ile 3 farklı protez temizleyicisi [Corega Tabs, Fittydent, % 0.5 sodyum hipoklorit (NaOCl)] test edilmiĢ; distile su kontrol grubu olarak kullanılmıĢtır. Her yumuĢak astar maddesinden 10 mm çapında ve 1 mm kalınlığında toplam 40 adet disk Ģeklinde örnek hazırlanmıĢtır (n=10). Protez temizleyicisine maruz bırakılmadan önce tüm örneklerin CIE L*a*b* değerleri spektrofotometre ile tespit edilmiĢtir. Uygulanacak temizleme prosedürüne göre rastgele 4 ayrı gruba ayrılan örnek-ler 8 saat protez temizleyicisine maruz bırakılmıĢ daha sonra akan suda yıkanarak 16 saat boyunca distile suda bekletilmiĢtir. Bu iĢlem 96 gün boyunca tekrarlanmıĢ; her 3 günlük periyot 1 hafta olarak kabul edilmiĢ ve böylece 6 aylık kullanım simüle edilmiĢtir. Renk ölçümleri sırasıyla 3 ve 6 ayı simüle eden, 48. ve 96. günün sonunda tekrarlanmıĢtır. Renk farkı değeri (ΔE) hesaplanarak veriler istatistiksel olarak analiz edilmiĢtir. Bulgular: Ufi Gel P, Elite Soft"a göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede düĢük ΔE değerleri göstermiĢtir (P<0.05). Protez temizleyicileri kıyaslandığında, NaOCl grubu diğer protez temizleyicilerine ve kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek renk farkına neden olmuĢ (P<0.05); Corega Tabs, Fittydent ve kontrol grubu arasında ise istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık bulunamamıĢtır (P>0.05). Sonuç: Renk stabilitesi, materyalin yıpranması ve zarar görmesi hakkında klinisyenlere fikir veren bir belirteçtir. Bu nedenle, yumuĢak astar maddelerinde protez temizleyicileri nedeniyle oluĢan renk farkı materyal seçiminde göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır. Materials and Method: Two different silicone soft lining materials (Elite Soft and Ufi Gel P) and 3 different denture cleansers [Corega Tabs, Fittydent, 0.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)] were used in this study and distilled water was served as control group. Forty disc-shaped specimens, with 10 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness were fabricated from each soft lining material (n=10). CIE L*a*b* values of specimens were recorded with a spectrophotometer and then specimens were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the cleaning protocol. All of the specimens were immersed in denture cleansers for 8 hours, then washed under running water and after that stored in distilled water for 16 hours.
