Surface roughness average and scanning electron microscopic observations of resin luting agents

Abstract: he objective of this work was to evaluate the surface roughness changes of three current resin cements after tooth brushing simulation, as well as discuss its relation with scanning electron microscopic observations. The materials employed were Enforce Sure Cure (Dentsply), Rely X (3M-ESPE) and Variolink II (Vivadent). They were subjected to brushing abrasion (100,000 strokes for each specimen) and the surface roughness alterations (before and after strokes) were detected. For each roughness test condition, sp… Show more

“…In contrast, some authors consider that the stress relief is related to the relaxation of the polymer chains when the vitrification point is achieved [2] or during the conversion of carbon double bonds when high molecular weight molecules are present in all conversion percentages inclusive at lower percentages which are obtained near the end reaction [2]. This condition means that the mobility of the polymer network will be restricted at higher DCs, delaying the gel point and the vitrification point relative to the conversion [25].…”

“…Toothbrushing abrasion was performed in a toothbrushing machine (Elquip, Sao Carlos, Brazil) particularly developed for testing purposes 15,16 with soft-bristle dental brushes (Johnson & Johnson Industrial Ltda., Sao José dos Campos, Brazil) and abrasive toothpaste (Colgate Palmolive Ltda., Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil). Toothbrushes were positioned to have contact with only half of the specimen surface, and the other half remained protected with isolation tape.…”

“…This work has been applied in diverse applications. The correlation matrix has been applied to the roughness of electro discharge machining (Brown et al ., ), and the list of parameters has been applied in applications such as dentistry (Radford et al ., ; Mondelli et al ., ), honed surface (Rosen et al ., ), and ground surfaces (Pancewicz and Mruk, ).…”
