Laparoscopic resection of metastatic pelvic liposarcoma

Abstract: We report a pelvic liposarcoma originating from the left spermatic cord that recurred following inadequate excision. In our case, the tumor was resected without performing orchiectomy previously. The patient was managed by laparoscopic resection, before undergoing radical orchiectomy in the left inguinal region. To our knowledge, no case of laparoscopic resection for the recurrent liposarcoma has been described. In addition, the present case serves to demonstrate that radical orchiectomy with wide excision is … Show more

“…The diffusion coefficient (D) was assumed as 3.9 × 10 −9 m 2 s −1 , which was calculated considering the value reported by Vasquez Moll and collaborators, 27 1.3 × 10 −9 m 2 s −1 at 25 °C, and corrected by temperature according to the Stokes-Einstein relationship. This value is consistent, although slightly lower, with that calculated from the data given by Shih et al 28 Fig. 5 shows that the rotation speed has an influence on the reaction rate when the temperature is increased.…”

“…However, in our literature review, we found that more cases occurred on the left [21] than on the right side [22]. Furthermore, there were three cases in which the retroperitoneum was involved [2,6,23], which strongly suggested that preoperative pelvic CT scanning was necessary to rule out the possibility of a tumor. The tumor size ranged from 0.4 cm to 50 cm with a mean size of 12.5 cm.…”

“…In the 38 cases reviewed, only four patients underwent tumor resection [8,12,13,24]. Two patients with retroperitoneal involvement were managed by tumor resection and radical orchidectomy [6,23]. All liposarcoma types frequently recur and spread by direct invasion.…”
