The relationship of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio with testicular cancer

Abstract: Purpose: To assess the relationship between testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and to determine whether this ratio can be used as a serum tumor marker. Material and Methods: Sixty-one patients with testicular germ cell tumors were included into the study. Patients were grouped as localized and non-localized. Histologically patients were categorized as seminoma and nonseminomatous germ cell tumors. Complete blood cell count was measured the day before surgery and at the … Show more

“…In some studies in which the NLR threshold value was investigated, it was found to be 2.25 by Gokcen et al [16], 3.16 by Sahin et al [3] and 2.11 by Ilktac et al [19]. In our study, we have specified the NLR cut-off value as 2.27, which is in accordance with the literature.…”

“…The reason for such studies depends on the results of some laboratory studies in which cytokines that stimulate the secretion of neutrophils from the bone marrow are secreted from tumour cells. Therefore, the number and ratios of leucocytes (neutrophils, monocytes and lymphocytes), which play an important role in the host's immune response against infections and tissue damage, have attracted attention in some studies (Bashaw et al., 2017; Huang et al., 2015; De Felice et al., 2019; Ilktac et al., 2020; Dupin, 2004; Brentjens et al., 2002).…”

Some labratory studies have demonstrated that tumor cells may release cytokines that stimulate the release of neutrophils from the bone marrow, which results in an elevation of the leucocytes 5,19 .…”
