Introduction The study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of artificial urinary sphincter ZSI 375 implantation for stress urinary incontinence, focusing on quality of life assessment (QoL). Material and methods The study had a prospective and non-randomized design. It was conducted in two urological centres in Poland. Between July 2013 and June 2019, artificial urinary sphincter ZSI 375 was implanted in 86 consecutive men with stress urinary incontinence. The follow up was completed in December 2019. The assessment of functional results was based on number of pads used and declared to have been used by patients. The quality of life was assessed on the basis of the ICIQ-SF questionnaire (International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form), SF-36 questionnaire (Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire) and the severity of pain by means of the NRS (numerical rating scale of pain intensity). Results The operations were performed in 86 patients aged 28 to 80 (median 69). With the median (SD; range) follow-up of 21 (20.2; 1–68) months, daily pad usage decreased significantly from ≥4 to 1.1 (±0.97 pads) per day. Seven (8.1%) patients achieved total continence, 60 (69.8%) social continence, 14 (16.3%) improvement and 5 (5.8%) failures (≥4 pads per day). 15 patients (17.5%) experienced complications after surgery. The study showed a significant improvement of QoL evaluated by ICIQ-UI SF and SF-36. Conclusions Therapy with the use of ZSI 375 device is successfully applied in surgical management of moderate to severe male stress urinary incontinence. The life quality of patients assessed using questionnaires is at a high level.

frecuencia en el sexo femenino y conforme aumenta la edad, provocando una disminución de la calidad de vida.Objetivo: Sintetizar la evidencia científica relacionada con las causas, tratamiento y cuidados de enfermería en la incontinencia urinaria.Metodología: Se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica sistematizada en las bases de datos Proquest, Pubmed, Google Académico y Scielo, utilizando como términos "incontinencia urinaria" (urinary incontinence), "factoresde riesgo" (risk factor), "intervenciones de enfermería"(nursing intervention) y "procedimientos terapeúticos"(therapeutics), con una limitación de 5 años en la búsqueda. Se incluyeron estudios experimentales y de revisión.Resultados: Se incluyeron 26 artículos: 5 estudios experimentales,18 revisiones sistemáticas y 3 metaanálisis.La incontinencia urinaria está relacionada con la edad, sexo y factores de riesgo, dependiendo del tipo e intensidad de la incontinencia, y características propias del paciente. El abordaje es interdisciplinar, con técnicasmenos invasivas al principio, entre las que destacan la terapia conductual y los ejercicios del suelo pélvico; necesitándose cirugía en algunos casos, según las circunstanciasindividuales de los pacientes y/o la no existenciade mejoría con las técnicas menos invasivas.Conclusiones: La incontinencia urinaria se encuentra estrechamente relacionada con la edad y el sexo; sin embargo, la existencia de factores de riesgo y algunas causas pueden contribuir a aumentar las probabilidadesde su establecimiento. La labor enfermera resulta prometedora en el establecimiento de una detección y actuación precoz ante el problema, teniendo como base siempre para el tratamiento el menor grado de invasión.

Background: Male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a known complication following surgical intervention on the prostate, particularly following surgery for prostate cancer. Effective surgical treatments for SUI include artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) and male urethral sling. Prior data suggest that men may forego available treatment despite bothersome symptoms. The objective was to explore how men who underwent surgical correction for post-prostatectomy SUI navigated SUI treatment decisions.Methods: Mixed method study was employed. Semi-structured interviews, participant surveys and objective clinical assessment of SUI were performed among a group of men living with incontinence after prostate cancer surgery who underwent surgery for SUI at the University of California in 2017.Results: Eleven men were interviewed after consultation for SUI and all had complete quantitative clinical data. Surgery for SUI included AUS (n=8) and sling (n=3). There was a decrease in pads per day from 3.2 to 0.9 and no major complications. Most patients found that the impact on activities and their treating urologist were of great importance. Sexual and relationships played a variable role with some participants ranking these as "great deal of influence" and others "little or no influence". Participants who underwent AUS were more likely to cite a higher importance on "being very dry" in choosing that surgery while sling patients had more variable ranking of important factors. Participants found a variety of inputs helpful in hearing information about SUI treatment options.Conclusions: Among a group of 11 men who underwent surgical correction for post-prostatectomy SUI, there were identifiable themes on how men make decisions, evaluate quality of life (QoL) changes and approach treatment options. Men value more than being dry with measures of individual success that can include sexual and relationship health. Furthermore the role of the Urologist remains crucial as patients relied heavily on input and discussion with their Urologist to assist in treatment decisions. These findings can be used to inform future studies of the experience of men with SUI.
