São Paulo, 2011 jan-mar;12(1):35-8 SUMMARY BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES:The consumption of mushrooms in popular and traditional medicine is associated to immune modulating activity. It is known that decreasing the inflammatory process will decrease nociception. This study aimed at checking the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activity of Agaricus blazei Murill, mushroom of the sun, in Wistar rats using the modified formalin test. METHOD: Animals (n = 18) were distributed in the following groups: Control Group (CG): non-treated animals receiving just 2% Tween solvent (n = 6); Treated Group (TG): animals daily treated orally with 2.65 mg of A. blazei powder in 2% Tween solvent for 15 days (n = 12). After treatment, they were submitted to the modified formalin test. RESULTS: After formalin injection, the three phases of the formalin test were observed in CG and TG animals. The treatment with A. blazei has not interfered with formalin test phases I or II, but has decreased the number of paw elevations in phase III. CONCLUSION: The treatment with Agaricus blazei during 15 days had action in nociceptive response and acute inflammation because rats treated with Agaricus had a lower number of paw movements during phase III,

Resumo:Objetivo: Analisou-se o impacto do treinamento físico moderado (TFM) e intenso (TFI) sobre o perfil leucocitário e a atividade microbicida de macrófagos alveolares, em 29 ratos machos Wistar. Métodos: Foram formados três grupos: controle-sedentário (CS), treino-moderado (TM) e treino-intenso (TI). Os TFM e TFI foram efetuados através da natação, com aumento progressivo de carga conforme o peso corporal, até um máximo de 3% para o TFM, e 5% para o TFI. As coletas de sangue para contagem total e diferencial dos leucócitos foram automatizadas através do analisador hematológico Sysmex XT-1800i (Roche®) antes e após o treino. E ao final realizou-se o lavado broncoalveolar para determinar a taxa de fagocitose e a produção de óxido nítrico (ON) de macrófagos. Resultados: O grupo TM apresentou valores maiores para o número de leucócitos (12,77±2,0 x 17,25±2,4 10³/mm³), linfócitos (8,87±1,0 x 12,5±2,1 10³/mm³) e neutrófilos (0,99±0,5 x 3,18±1,0 10³/mm³), p<0,05. Apresentou também uma maior produção de ON (15,77±4,9µmols/mL) e da taxa de fagocitose (38,6%±8,65) em relação ao CS (6,58±1,9µmols/mL e 24,4%±7,40, respectivamente). Enquanto que, o grupo TI apresentou menor taxa de fagocitose (13,1%±1,52 x 24,4%±7,40), maior produção de ON (38,40± 2,1x 6,58±1,9 µmols/mL) e aumento apenas, no valor dos neutrófilos (2,6±1,4x 0,99±0,5 10³/mm³) quando comparado ao CS, p<0,001. Conclusões: O TFM proporcionou melhora nos mecanismos de defesa dos animais adultos. Enquanto que o TFI reduziu a taxa de fagocitose o que poderá implicar em prejuízo da atividade microbicida dos animais. Palavras-chave: Exercício físico. Leucócitos. Fagocitose. Óxido nítrico. At the end of the process, a bronchoalveolar lavage was carried out so to determine the amount of phagocytosis and the production of nitric oxide (NO) of the macrophages. Results: The MT showed an increase in the number of leucocytes (12,77±2,0x17,25±2,4 10³/mm³), lymphocytes (8,87±1,0x 12,5±2,1 10³/mm³) and neutrophils (0,99±0,5x3,18 ±1,0 10³/mm³), p<0,05. In order to obtain a successful outcome in artificial insemination programs, a few precautions must be taken with regard to male breeders. It is established that environmental factors can change the hormonal secretion, the cell differentiation that occurs in the testicles, as well as sperm maturation and transport in the epididymis. In view of adverse nutritional factors, reproductive organs can present degeneration and disorders in different degrees and intensities, affecting the animal fertility. The term nutraceutical describes products derived from foods, which may provide additional health benefits, beyond the basic value found in diets. Among the main nutraceuticals used in male reproduction, there are omega-3, arginine, B-complex vitamins, L-carnitine, β-carotene and antioxidants. The aim of this paper is to present the main substances used as nutraceuticals, in order to improve semen quality, obtaining most favorable outcomes of stallions in the use of natural breeding or artificial insemination.Keywords: artificial insemination, fertility, nutrition, semen, spermatogenesis.resumo Para um sucesso em programas de inseminação artificial, algumas precauções devem ser tomadas em relação aos reprodutores machos. Sabe-se que fatores ambientais podem alterar a secreção hormonal, a diferenciação celular que ocorre nos testículos, assim como o transporte e a maturação espermática no epidídimo. Um déficit nutricional pode levar a degeneração e distúrbios dos órgãos reprodutivos em diferentes graus e intensidade, afetando a fertilidade. O termo nutracêutico descreve produtos derivados dos alimentos, que podem fornecer benefícios adicionais a saúde, além dos valores básicos encontrados na dieta. Entre os vários nutracêuticos utilizados na reprodução, temos o ômega-3, arginina, vitaminas do complexo B, L-carnitina, β-caroteno e antioxidantes. Objetivou-se com essa revisão apresentar as principais substâncias utilizadas como nutracêuticos, com a finalidade de melhorar a qualidade seminal, obtendo resultados favoráveis dos garanhões com a monta natural ou a inseminação artificial.Palavras-chave: inseminação artificial, fertilidade, nutrição, sêmen, espermatogênese.
