Distribuição das espécies e estrutura do manguezal do rio Benevente, Anchieta, ES

Abstract: Abstract:The structure of the mangrove forest of the Benevente River estuary, in Anchieta, ES, was analyzed by the plot method in order to evaluate the distribution of species along the river. The results indicated a trend of species distribution, in which Avicennia schaueriana Leechm ex Stapf & Moldenke and Rhizophora mangle L. exhibited the highest dominance and relative density in areas under greater marine influence, while Laguncularia racemosa (L.) Gaertn.f. and Avicennia germinans (L.) Stearn. showed hig… Show more

“…According to Smith III (1992), mangrove forests subjected to more frequent disturbances have lower numbers of Rhizophoraceae species compared to species such as Laguncularia racemosa. Petri et al (2011) analyzed the vegetation structure of a mangrove forest in the Benavente River estuary (ES) and noted that the species R. mangle and A. schaueriana are dominant in areas with marine influence and longer flooding by tides while the species L. racemosa and A. germinans were dominant in areas of high influence of freshwater.…”

“…The greater the knowledge of the ecosystem's functions, the greater the chances of producing management plans and aiding its recovery (MENEZES, 2005;QUEIROZ et al, 2013.). As the result of the vegetation structure evaluation in this study, Laguncularia racemosa and Avicennia sp were chosen for the production of seedlings to be used in the restoration of degraded areas.…”

“…Todavia, é importante ressaltar que a espécie dominante pode variar de manguezal para manguezal, em virtude das características abióticas e bióticas (ex. : tolerância à inundação e à salinidade, competição interespecífica), além da influência do estresse natural e antrópico (PETRI et al, 2011) …”

“…The northernmost estuary, Piraquê-Açu-Mirim estuary (PAE; 19°57'S 40°09'W) is within a municipal conservation unit and covered by extensive and well-developed mangrove forests with an area of over 19 km 2 (Servino et al in review). The Vitória Bay estuarine system (VIB; 20º16'S 40º20'W) is the largest estuary on the region with approximately 18 km 2 of mangrove forests and surrounded by a densely populated metropolitan area with high levels of sewage input and industrial activities (Jesus et al 2004 (Pereira et al 2009, Petri et al 2011. Mangrove forests of the three estuaries are composed by Rhizophora mangle, Laguncularia racemosa and Avicennia schaueriana species.…”
