A new species of Notalina Mosely, 1936 (Trichoptera: Leptoceridae) from Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, Goiás state, Brazil

Abstract: Abstract:The endemic Neotropical long-horned caddisfly subgenus Notalina (Neonotalina) Holzenthal contains nine described species in two species groups, the brasiliana and roraima groups, from the Brazilian Southeastern and Amazonian regions, respectively. In this paper, a new species of Notalina in the brasiliana species group, from Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, Goiás state, Brazil, is described and illustrated. The new species is easily recognized by the following character set: presence of two pairs … Show more

“…In the Neotropical region, as of 1999, 2,196 species were recorded (Flint Jr. et al 1999), and in Brazil the last checklist reported 378 species ( Paprocki et al 2004). However, as of July 2009, at least 46 additional species have been described and seven new distribution records have been reported (Holzenthal & Pes 2004, Huamantinco & Nessimian 2004, Blahnik 2005, Robertson & Holzenthal 2005, 2006, Calor et al 2006, Johanson & Malm 2006, Holzehthal & Robertson 2006, Wasmund & Holzenthal 2007, Calor 2008, Dumas & Nessimian 2008, Santos & Nessimian 2008, 2009a, b, Santos et al 2009, increasing the number of Trichoptera species known for Brazil to 431.…”

“…The Chapada dos Veadeiros region inserted in the Brazilian Cerrado, is one of the world's biodiversity hotspots (Myers et al, 2000;Silva & Bates, 2002;Klink & Machado, 2005), sheltering endemic species in Plantae (Irwin & Arroyo, 1973;Pastore & Cavalcante, 2008;Pastore & Marques, 2009), Trichoptera (Calor, 2008), Anura (Bockermann, 1975;Caramaschi & Cruz, 2000), Aves (Silva, 1997;Tubelis, 2009), and Mammalia (Bonvicino et al, 2005). The lack of recognition of endemic species leads to their exclusion/forgetfulness from lists of threatened species, and the consequent absence of efforts and funds for their conservation and of the ecoregions that harbor them.…”
