This work was carried out during one year in a fish pond to evaluate the effect of water quality in a plankton community according to the adopted management. High densities of Euglenophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Cyanobacteria were associated with high nitrate levels (1 to 210 mg.L -1 ). Cell densities of Cyanobacteria over 90 ind.m 3 × 10 3 (85.5%) occurred when nitrate concentrations approximated 210 mg.L -1 , total phosphorus less than 160 mg.L -1 and temperature above 25 °C. High density of Rotifera was associated with high density of Cyanobacteria (December). Only Trichocerca sp. among the Rotifera species was constant in all sampled sites, whereas Diaphanosoma birgei, ranging between 4 and 342 ind.L -1 (0.7 and 2.4%) during the study period, was the most representative among the Cladocera species. Results show that water quality management in the fish pond had a direct influence on the plankton population due to the shallowness of the environment, large nutrient discharges through feed, fertilizing, fish waste. In fact, they contribute towards the appearance of undesirable plankton organisms.Keywords: fishpond, phytoplankton, zooplankton, limnology, environment management. Qualidade da água e população planctônica em viveiro de policultivo de peixeResumo O presente estudo foi realizado durante um ano em viveiro de produção de peixes, com a finalidade de avaliar o efeito da qualidade da água na comunidade planctônica em função do manejo adotado. Maiores densidades de Euglenophyceae, Chlorophyceae e Cyanobacteria estiveram associadas aos elevados teores de nitrato (1 a 210 mg.L -1 ). Densidades de Cyanobacteria acima de 90 ind.m 3 × 10 3 (85,5%) ocorreram quando as concentrações de nitrato estiveram ao redor de 210 mg.L -1 , fósforo total menor que 106 mg.L -1 e temperatura acima de 25 °C. Elevada densidade de Rotifera também esteve associada às altas densidades de Cyanobacteria (dezembro). Dentre os organismos zooplanctônicos, os Rotifera foram os mais abundantes e somente Trichocerca sp. foi constante em todos os pontos amostrados. Dentre os Cladocera, a espécie mais representativa foi Diaphanosoma birgei, variando de 4 a 342 ind.L -1 (0,7 e 2,4%) durante o período de estudo. Os resultados mostram que qualidade da água e o manejo empregado neste viveiro apresentaram influência direta na população planctônica, em função da baixa profundidade e constante carga de nutrientes que são incorporados no viveiro por meio de alimentos, fertilizantes e fezes de peixes, que contribuem para o aparecimento de organismos planctônicos não desejáveis.Palavras-chave: viveiros, fitoplâncton, zooplâncton, limnologia, manejo ambiental.

-Riverine wetlands are vulnerable ecotonal environments and are often threatened by human activities. A project supported by the Cariplo Foundation, called "Ecological and hydromorphological requalification of wetlands in the Ticino area around Pavia" (South-East Lombardy, Northern Italy), was started in 2010 with the aim of improving the chemical, bio-ecological and hydrological conditions of these wetlands. In line with the aim of this project, we selected two wetlands near the main course of the Ticino River for investigation, one of which is impacted by a combined sewer overflow from the sewerage networks which is always active (San Lanfranco (SL) wetland), whereas the other (Topo (TO) oxbow lake) is less directly impacted by anthropogenic activities. In this paper, we report the ecological situation of these two wetlands before the requalification process by investigating the way the zooplankton assemblages, considered as bio-indicators, respond to anthropogenic pressure. Overall, we collected 19 taxa: 4 cladocerans, 1 copepod and 14 rotifers. In the TO oxbow lake, we found a stable community, dominated by the cladoceran Bosmina longirostris. By comparison, in the SL wetland we found a pioneer community, dominated by the juvenile stage of the copepod Thermocyclops dybowskii. The SL wetland was shown to be most urgently in need of improvement and is therefore first in line for requalification, whereas the TO oxbow lake needs less drastic measures to ensure the long-term ecological functioning of the aquatic environment. After these requalification activities, a systematic zooplankton survey will be carried out to monitor the evolution of the riverine wetlands.

R E S U M OMuitos reservatórios são alvo de impactos resultantes de diversas atividades antrópicas, principalmente os localizados nos domínios das bacias metropolitanas. O açude Gavião, responsável pelo abastecimento de água potável da Região Metropolitana de Fortaleza, apresenta a presença excessiva de fitoplâncton, consequência direta do enriquecimento da água por nutrientes, dificultando substancialmente o tratamento da água no reservatório e elevando os custos de tratamento. Torna-se imprescindível, portanto, estudos, planos de gerenciamento, ações corretivas e/ou preventivas a fim de que, futuramente, a qualidade das águas não seja prejudicada a ponto de culminar na necessidade da modificação da tecnologia de tratamento utilizada na estação. A determinação da carga de nutrientes e os balanços de massa podem avaliar o processo de eutrofização no sistema verificando-se se há exportação ou retenção de nutrientes no corpo d'água. Amostras mensais de janeiro a maio de 2011 foram coletadas em cinco pontos do açude com o objetivo de estudar o balanço de massa dos macronutrientes. No período de estudo o açude acumulou cerca de 28,06 t de fósforo e 121,42 t de nitrogênio podendo ser classificado eutrófico.Dynamics of nitrogen and phosphorus in reservoir in the semi-arid region using mass balance A B S T R A C TMany reservoirs are subjected to impacts resulting from various anthropogenic activities, especially those located in metropolitan areas of the basins. The reservoir Gavião is responsible for drinking water supply in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza and contains excessive presence of algae, a direct result of the enrichment of water by nutrients, which substantially hampers the treatment of water collected in the reservoir and increase the treatment costs. Therefore, it is essential to carry out studies of corrective and/or preventative management plans so that future water quality is not impaired to the point that it culminates with the replacement or modification of the technology used in the treatment plant. The determination of nutrient loading and mass balances can evaluate the eutrophication process in the system, checking for export or retention of nutrients in the water body. Samples were collected monthly from January to May 2011, at five points in the reservoir in order to study the mass balance of macronutrients.
