On some trematodes parasites of fishes from Paraná River

Abstract: Crassicutis cichlasomae Manter, 1936 is redescribed for the first time in South America and from a new host: Geophagus brasiliensis (Cichlidae). Iheringtrema iheringi Travassos, 1948 is redescribed for the first time since its original description from Pseudopimelodus zungaro (Pimelodidae); and new host records are referred to Genarchella genarchella Travassos et al., 1928, and to Parspina argentinensis (Szidat, 1954). Other reported species are: Microrchis oligovitellum Lunaschi, 1987, Neocladocystis intestin… Show more

“…Cichla piquiti was identified as a new host for A. compactum metacercariae, G. genarchella, P. (Procamallanus) peraccuratus and third-stage larvae of anisakid nematodes of the genus Hysterothylacium. All identified parasites have been previously found in the Paraná River Basin (MORAVEC et al, 1993;KOHN, 2001;TAKEMOTO et al, 2009;KOHN et al, 2011;LACERDA et al, 2013), but this is the first report of these parasite species in the study area.…”

“…in the Paraná River, municipality of Pirassununga, São Paulo State, Brazil. Trematodes of this genus parasitise the anterior portion of the digestive tract (oesophagus, stomach and oral cavity) of freshwater fish, and G. genarchella is widely distributed in characid fish in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay (TRAVASSOS et al, 1969;KOHN et al, 1990) but also occurs in the fish of the Pimelodidae family (HAMANN, 1989;KOHN, 2001). This is the first report of G. genarchella in a host of the family Cichlidae, increasing the list of hosts for this parasite and confirming its low specificity.…”

“…In wild populations of T. galeatus of the Brazil, only the following helminths such 2 species of digeneans, 3 nematodes and 1 cestode are known (PAVANELLI & SANTOS, 1990;FERNANDES & KOHN, 2001;DIAS et al, 2006;TAKEMOTO & LIZAMA, 2009;KOHN et al, 2011). In wild populations of T. galeatus of the Argentina, there have been reports only 2 species digeneans (LUNASCHI, 1989;LUNASCHI & SUTTON, 1995).…”
