Abstract: -The external ant community of Hospital Municipal de Morrinhos, in Morrinhos, Goiás State, was characterized by the low rates of richness, diversity, dominance and equity of species abundance. Pheidole sp.1, a polygynic species was numerically dominant in this environment, although it coexists with potentially competitive species. This ant species prevailed within all hospital departments and its space-time distribution was a little aggregated (variance/mean ratio = 1.102, χ 2 = 29.38, P < 0.01). Escherichia, … Show more

“…In this process these insects may acquire bacteria in potentially contaminated environments like bathrooms, toilets, stores, kitchens etc. The presence of pathogenic bacteria in the tegument of ants foraging in human dwellings qualify them as potentially important agents in the spread of infectious diseases [10].…”

“…In urban environments, insects (mainly ants, Bueno and Campos-Farinha, 1999) invade homes, cause structural damage, such as short circuit and can contaminate foods (Bueno and Campos-Farinha, 1999;Rodovalho et al, 2007;Pesquero et al, 2008;Bueno and Campos, 2017). Some of them may even be carriers of bacteria, causing damage to public health (Rodovalho et al, 2007;Pesquero et al, 2008;Bueno and Campos, 2017).…”
