Fatores associados à dor musculoesquelética em escolares da rede pública municipal no extremo sul do Brasil

Abstract: Objectives: to identify the factors associated with musculo-skeletal pain (MSP) 11 and 18 years (PR=1.70; p<0.001), being female (PR=1.47; p<0.001) and a family history of back pain (PR=0.78; p=0.020) were associated with the outcome. Not practicing competitive sports was a protective factor (PR=0.65; p<0.001 Resultados: a prevalência de DME foi de 37,6%. Idade entre 11 e 18 anos (RP=1,70; IC95%=1,11; p<0,001), sexo feminino (RP=1,47; IC95%=1,81; p<0,001) e histórico familiar de distúrbio na coluna (RP=… Show more

“…Some studies report associations between physical inactivity and chronic musculoskeletal pain. 26 In contrast to this, a study conducted with 624 Brazilian school students did not find an association with doing physical education when assessing diffuse musculoskeletal pain. 27 Taking into consideration that there is no consensus regarding the association between doing physical activity and the presence of knee pain, investment needs to be made in studies with different designs capable of ascertaining whether pain is a cause or a consequence of inactivity.…”

“…Reis et al 24 conducted a study with 800 Brazilian school children aged 7-18 years and identified that the areas most affected by pain due to inadequate furniture were the back, shoulders and the gluteal region 25 . Inadequate chairs have been closely associated with pain in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions of the spinal column 10 . Studies report that pain in the dorsal and lumbar regions of the spine is linked to inadequate height and depth of the chair seat 14,26 .…”

“…In Brazil, a study with 93 students with 11 years of age, found that 54% reported musculoskeletal pain in the cervical region of the spine during activity in school desk 9 . However, the national literature has focused its studies on the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and associated factors among students, and research regarding the adequacy of school furniture remains weak 10 . Classroom furniture therefore plays an important role in maintaining good sitting posture.…”

“…Farhood 20 has evaluated low back pain in children between 6 and 12 years of age and has observed prevalence of 36.8%. Saes et al 21 have evaluated factors associated to musculoskeletal pain in students from 6 to 18 years of age and have observed that 37.6% of students have reported pain in at least one investigated region, being reported, by 11% of students, pain in spinal dorsal region and by 10.9% in the lumbar region. Similarly to López et al 19 , we have not found difference in the presence of pain between genders (Table 2).…”
