Molecular analysis of endophytic bacteria from the genus Bacillus isolated from tropical maize (Zea mays L.)

Abstract: Endophytic bacteria play an important role in agriculture by improving plant performance and adaptation against biotic and abiotic stresses. In the present study molecular methods were used for identifying Bacillus endophytic bacteria isolated from Brazilian sweet corn. SDS-PAGE of whole-cell protein extract of forty-two isolates revealed a high number of scrutinable bands. Twenty-four isolates were identified in nine different groups of duplicated bacteria and eighteen were identified as unique. Some highaccu… Show more

“…The analysis of variance for each test was made using the Sisvar 5.3 program (Ferreira, 2010). Significant differences were analyzed by the F test (P ≤ 0.05), and the means were compared using the Scott-Knott test at 5% probability.…”

“…The gluconic acid production was prevalent in all the PSB studied, and species of the genus Bacillus were the most efficient phosphate solubilizers. Bacillus species are easily isolated from maize, suggesting an evolutionary relationship between these organisms (Figueiredo et al, 2009). This indicates that Bacillus species may be used for selecting the most adapted and efficient phosphate solubilizers from maize.…”

“…Several fungal (Li et al, 2010;Qiu et al, 2010) and even bacterial (Andreote et al, 2009;Figueiredo et al, 2009) endophytes colonize plants. Endophytes can also protect the plant from many biotic and abiotic threats (Azevedo et al, 2000).…”

“…subtilis and B. pumilus are the most frequently isolated rhizobacteria followed by B. licheniformis, B. cereus and B. amiloliquefascens [15]. Here, in order to identify the rhizospheric bacterial strains, we amplified the 16S rDNA obtaining amplicons of *1.5 kbp, which were sequenced and compared with GenBank data in NCBI.…”
