Background. Temporomandibular disorders are very common nowadays. One of the methods to treat these problems is occlusal splint therapy. Modern materials should be introduced to this treatment. Objectives. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the properties of light-activated urethane dimethacrylate and the quality of the bonds it creates with thermoforming foils. Material and Methods. Thermoforming foils were covered with light-cured resin. A bond was formed between the materials using an adhesive. A coating lacquer was used on the resin as a final preparatory step. Three laboratory tests were run: dye penetrant inspection, a Vickers microhardness test and a linear polymerization shrinkage test. The materials were layered and then cured with a polymerizing lamp emitting light of a wavelength of 400 Nm, according to the manufacturer's instructions. All the occlusal splints were fitted to upper dental arch. The devices had been made in an articulator on specially prepared gypsum models. The results were analyzed statistically using a one-sided binomial test, Spearman's rank-order correlation coefficient and the Friedman ANOVA (p = 0.05). Results. In the dye penetrant inspection, only one sample out of sixty showed the effects of color penetration to the adhesive connection. The dye only penetrated the layer of lacquer coating the resin. The average value of the Vickers microhardness test with a load of F = 50 g applied to the material surface for 30 s was HV 0.05 = 7.43 N/mm

Objetivo: Avaliar in vitro a influência da terminação marginal do preparo cavitário Classe I sobre a qualidade adesiva em restaurações compósitas realizadas em primeiros e segundos molares decíduos. Método: Dois preparos cavitários foram realizados na oclusal de vinte molares decíduos hígidos, sendo 20 preparos em primeiros molares e 20 em segundos molares, totalizando quarenta preparos cavitários. Após escolha aleatória, 20 preparos não receberam o bisel reto (grupo controle, GI, n=20) enquanto os demais preparos, grupo experimental, (GII, n=20) receberam um bisel reto com 0,5 mm de extensão no ângulo cavo -superficial feito com ponta diamantada ultra-fina 2200 FF. Para o procedimento restaurador, utilizou-se condicionamento ácido total com ácido fosfórico a 37% por 30s, sistema adesivo Prime & Bond NT® e compósito TPH® Spectrum cor A2. Para avaliação da qualidade adesiva, os dentes foram isolados com verniz, exceto às restaurações e 1,0 mm além das suas margens, e permaneceram em contato direto com uma solução aquosa de nitrato de prata a 50%, por 24 h. Em seguida, estes dentes foram clivados mesiodistalmente, e as restaurações avaliadas com 40 vezes de aumento. Dois avaliadores calibrados classificaram independentemente as restaurações de acordo com escores que variaram de zero (ausência de microinfiltração) a três (máxima microinfiltração). Os dados foram analisados descritivamente e tratados com os testes de Wilcoxon, Qui-quadrado e exato de Fisher a um nível de confiança de 95%. Resultados: O GII mostrou maiores escores de microinfiltração que o GI (p<0.001; p=0.0001). Os primeiros molares decíduos sofreram mais microinfiltração na presença de bisel (p=0.0003). Conclusão: O bisel no ângulo cavo-superficial em preparos Classe I aumentou a infiltração marginal nas restaurações compósitas em molares decíduos, principalmente nos primeiros molares.Microinfiltração; Preparo cavitário dental; Molar decíduo; Compósito.Objective: To evaluate in vitro the influence of Class I cavity marginal preparation on the adhesive quality in composite resin restorations placed in first and second primary molars. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the shear bond strength of metallic orthodontic brackets to enamel using different bonding materials followed by thermal cycling. Methods A fluid composite resin (Transbond XT / 3M Unitek) and a resin-modified glass ionomer (Fuji Results No difference on shear bond strength was observed regarding the number of thermal cycles for each specimen (p = 0.873). A significant difference was found in shear bond strength between the bonding materials (p = 0.022), with significantly higher values for Transbond XT regardless of the number of thermal cycles. Conclusion RESUMO ObjetivoAvaliar in vitro a resistência de união por cisalhamento de bráquetes ortodônticos metálicos ao esmalte utilizando diferentes materiais para colagem em função da quantidade de ciclos térmicos. MétodosForam avaliados um sistema de união com resina composta fluida (Transbond XT/3M Unitek) e um ionômero de vidro modificado por resina (Fuji Ortho LC/GC America Inc.). Oitenta pré-molares humanos hígidos foram aleatoriamente divididos em oito grupos experimentais (n=10), de acordo com os tipos de material e quantidade de ciclos térmicos: zero, 1000, 2000 e 3000 ciclos. A colagem dos bráquetes foi realizada na face vestibular dos dentes. Após 24 horas, foram submetidos à ciclagem térmica com temperaturas de imersão entre 5ºC e 55ºC por 15 segundos. Os testes de resistência de união foram feitos em máquina de ensaios universal com ponta tipo cinzel com velocidade de 0,5 mm/ min. Os dados foram submetidos à ANOVA a dois critérios. ResultadosNão houve diferença na resistência de união entre bráquetes e o esmalte em função do número de ciclos térmicos (p = 0,873). Houve diferença significativa na resistência de união proporcionada entre os materiais para colagem (p = 0,022), sendo que valores significativamente superiores foram obtidos com a utilização do Transbond XT, independentemente do número de ciclos térmicos. ConclusãoA quantidade de ciclos térmicos não influenciou significativamente a resistência de união dos materiais. Transbond XT mostrou maior resistência de união do que o cimento Fuji Ortho LC, independentemente da quantidade de ciclos térmicos.Termos de indexação: Cimentos de Ionômeros de vidro.
