The use of plant fibers as reinforcement in composites with the aim of totally or partially replacing synthetic fibers has received significant attention in the last years. However, one of the disadvantages of the use of these fibers in polymeric composites is associated to the fact that they are hydrophilic, resulting in poor adhesion with most matrices when in the presence of moisture. In addition, another problem encountered is the lower strength of this type of fiber and, as a solution to minimize these problems, the composite can be hybridized by adding layers of natural and synthetic fibers and the use of resin protection along the thickness of the composite. (Lateral protection) to reduce moisture absorption by the laminate. The objective of this work is to obtain composites formed by five layers of reinforcement and terephthalic polyester matrix, one of which is reinforced only with short glass fiber-E blanket, another reinforced only with jute fiber and a third hybrid containing the fibers. Two types of reinforcements with interlayer layers. Afterwards, the loss of mechanical properties was observed when these materials were immersed in distilled water, with and without lateral protection, until reaching saturation. We evaluated parameters such as the influence of configuration type and environmental conditions, such as the amount of water absorption. The obtained results show that the hybrid composite obtained a behavior close to the composite containing only fiberglass, and better than the one containing only jute fiber and that the absorption was smaller in the samples with side protection.

A antracologia, como ciência, tem como objetivo a análise da estrutura anatômica dos carvões vegetais arqueológicos e modernos direcionada para a paleoecologia, paleoetnobotânica, identificação das espécies, etc. No Brasil, a identificação de espécies florestais através da análise dos carvões vegetais atuais reveste-se de importante caráter conservacionista, por ser o maior produtor mundial de carvão vegetal, com grande parte produzida pela extração ilegal de madeira de florestas nativas. Com esse objetivo, no presente trabalho, foi avaliada a estrutura anatômica microscópica, a densidade e a contração do lenho e do carvão de 75 espécies da floresta Amazônica, estado do Pará. Os resultados evidenciaram para o parâmetro (i) anatômico, deformação de diferentes níveis dos elementos de vasos (e pontoações), das células do parênquima axial e radial e das fibras entre as espécies, (ii) físico, significativa variação da densidade da madeira e do carvão entre as espécies; as de madeira de maior densidade aparente apresentam carvão de maior densidade; (iii) contração, resultando na alteração da morfologia dos elementos anatômicos da madeira, com variações entre espécies. Além disto, os resultados permitiram (i) avaliar o efeito melhor do processo de carbonização nos parâmetros anatômicos e físicos da madeira, (ii) demonstrar a aplicação da antracologia como ferramenta na identificação de espécies tropicais e seu potencial no controle ambiental e na fiscalização, além de possibilitar a (iv) criação de uma coleção antracológica de referência, iniciando-se com 75 espécies de madeira e de carvão tropical. The anthracology, as science, aims to analyze the anatomical structure of archaeological and modern vegetal charcoal applied for paleoecology, paleoetnobotanical, species identification, etc. In Brazil, the identification of forest species through analysis of vegetal charcoal is important to the nature conservation, considered that the country is the largest producer of charcoal produced, in part, by the illegal logging of native forests. With this objective, in the present study was evaluated the anatomical microcopical structure, density and contraction of wood and charcoal of 75 species of the Amazon forest, from Pará state. Natural textile fibers in contemporary Brazilian jewelry

The present study discusses the use of textiles in the contemporary production of jewelry in Brazil, highlighting the application of natural fibers. Manual weaving of natural fibers is closely linked to traditional handicraft just as metallic interlacing is used in jewelry production since antiquity. Bibliographical and scientific literature review were carried out as well as consulting collections of Brazilian creators, artists and designers, currently working with jewelry and employing natural fibers. Reflecting on the use of natural fibers in the Brazilian contemporary jewelry, this study has as its reference, in order to make a broad discussion, the work of artists and designers from different regions of the country, whose expression is different regarding natural material available and applied on the works and the productive techniques originated in regional traditions. Considering the search for innovation in the use of materials, it can be observed an intense renewal in Brazilian jewelry, which is impregnated by both unusual natural elements and traditional values of the culture of the country.
