Show more

“…The highest strength properties, yield strength (σ y , τ y ), and ultimate strength (σ u , τ u ), were presented by AA6351 alloy subjected to 2 and 6 h of aging times. Considering these times, the alloy approached or reached the peak‐aging (β″) time if compared to 1 h of aging time 12–17,36–38 . The precipitation sequence during artificial aging in Al–Mg–Si alloys can be summarized as supersaturated α → atomic clusters → GP zones → β″ → β′ → β 14,39–41 .…”

“…On the other hand, the alloy subjected to 1 h of aging time presented higher elongation, shear strain, and strain hardening exponents than others aging times. According to these researchers, 12–17,36–38 the increase in strength properties depends on the precipitates' density formed (Mg 2 Si) and the disturbance, which the precipitates cause in the regularity of lattices (Guinier–Preston zones, β″ or β′ type). If there are a few precipitates and a little disturbance in the regularity of lattices, this causes less obstacles to the dislocation movement in the matrix, resulting in lower strength properties and higher strain hardening exponent.…”
