Chitosanase production by Paenibacillus ehimensis and its application for chitosan hydrolysis

Abstract: The chitosanase production by Paenibacillus ehimensis was studied in submerged cultures and the chitosan hydrolysis was evaluated by using these enzymes without purification. The bacterium produced inducibles enzymes after 12 h of growth in a culture medium containing 0.2% (w/v)

“…Unlike αGI, there are few reports of chitinolytic enzymes and proteases being produced by Paenibacillus species. Chitosanase produced by Paenibacillus ehimensis NRRL B-23118 has been studied, but purification was not performed [ 33 ]. To compare the different chitinases and proteases produced by Paenibacillus sp.…”

“…Chitosan (1%) was treated with1M acetic acid and adjusted to pH 5 using 2M sodium acetate before its use as a substrate for enzyme assay [14]. The enzyme activity was determined according to Pagnoncelli et al, [15] by mixing 500µL of the clear culture filtrate with 500µL of 1% soluble chitosan and the reaction mixture was incubated at 50°C for 30min. At the end of the assay time, 2.5mL of DNS was added to stop the reaction.…”

“…The genus Paenibacillus has been reported for production of several industrially important enzymes such as amylase, cellulase, hemicellulase, pectinase, lignin‐modifying enzymes , chitosanase , xylan‐degrading enzymes , 4,6‐α‐glucanotransferase enzymes . The enzymes have been used for many applications in industries such as biofuel, paper, textiles, detergents, food and feed, as well as healthcare.…”
