Rooting of healthy and CVC-affected 'Valência' sweet orange stem cuttings, through the use of plant regulators

Abstract: Citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC) is a disease caused by Xylella fastidiosa. Using different concentrations of plant regulators, such as auxins (indole-3-butyric acid) and gibberellic acid biosynthesis-inhibitor (paclobutrazol), physiological rooting capacity of healthy and CVC-affected stem cuttings were evaluated in order to investigate the importance of plant hormone imbalance and xylem occlusion in plants with CVC. The percentages of dead, alive and rooted cuttings, cuttings with callus and mean number of … Show more

“…In general, in citrus fruits propagated by grafting, very good results except for lemon have not been obtained in steel propagation so far (Cooper, 1935). In the study examining the effects of IBA and Paclobutrazol on steel rooting in Valencia orange cultivar, the highest steel rooting (19.6%) was obtained from 500 ppm IBA + Paclobutrazol (Habermann et al, 2006). In the study which investigated the effects of IBA applications on cutting rooting in different citrus rootstocks, trifoliate orange, Carrizo citrange, Cleopatra mandarin, Citrumelo 1452 rootstocks control and different rooting applications could not be detected (Uzun and Seday, 2011).…”

“…The genome sequence determination of the phytopathogenic bacterium X. fastidiosa strain 9a5c was a world landmark. X. fastidiosa-9a5c is associated to citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC) in sweet orange trees (Habermann et al, 2006). It has a main chromosome and two plasmids, composing a total of 2,905 genes.…”
