Sertralina e pancreatite aguda: relato de caso

Abstract: Acute pancreatitis is a severe disease with considerable morbidity and mortality. The incidence of acute pancreatitis is rising in Western countries.1 Gallstones and alcohol consumption are the most important risk factors. Other risk factors include hyperlipidemia, hypercalcemia and trauma. In 10-25% of the patients with acute pancreatitis, no obvious risk factors are present.2 Drugs are also associated with the event and pathogenesis of drug-induced acute pancreatitis has not been yet completely clarified. Ca… Show more

“…Therefore, spontaneous report of adverse drug reaction, case series, or case report remains to be the first choice to add evidence to the pharmacovigilance databases, as previous reports have shown. [11][12][13] There are not any obvious clinical features to definitely distinguish drug-related acute pancreatitis from other cause-related acute pancreatitis. Drug-related acute pancreatitis remains a diagnostic challenge.…”

“…Till now, case reports and case series have shown the potential association between the risk of acute pancreatitis and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors use. [11][12][13] Several systematic studies have investigated such an association, [14][15][16] but the results were not consistent. Some studies showed a positive association, 14,16 but others showed no association.…”

“…Amylase was first used as a laboratory test for pancreatic disorders in 1916. 1 Because of its short half-life, the serum amylase level decreased sooner than other pancreatic enzymes and returned to normal despite persistence of inflammation 2 and also had a low specificity for AP. Serum Lipase was another commonly used biochemical marker for diagnosis of AP.…”

“…2) Only 1 case of pancreatitis caused by sertraline has been reported. 1) Although it has been reported that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors may rarely cause pancreatitis, 2) Elevated serum amylase levels associated with sertraline use in cases without pancreatitis has not been reported in the literature. To our knowledge, our case is the first report of hyperamylasemia related to sertraline.…”

“…Elevation of serum amylase level is usually associated with pancreatitis, 1) but 2% of cases are associated with medication. 2) Only 1 case of pancreatitis caused by sertraline has been reported.…”
