The objective of the present study was to analize the non-linear models that best fit the growth of ewes Ile de France. The experiment was conducted in school farm Capão da Onça, located in city of Ponta Grossa -PR and so, were used data on weight at birth to 210 days of age of 34 females of the breed Ile de France. The animals showed mean weight at birth (PN) of 4,58 kilograms, weaning weight (P60) of 19,58 kilograms and weight at 210 days (P210) equal to 43,18 kilograms, providing daily weight gain (GMD) equal to 0,183 kg/day. The non-linear models used were: Brody, Von Bentarlanffy, Logístic and Gompertz, presenting results, respectively, of 33.5453; 33.7120; 33.6714 and 33.8836 for Error Mean Square (EMS) and 0.9650; 0.8302; 0.9649 and 0.9647 for coefficient of determination (R 2 ). All models tended to describe accordingly the curve of animals growth, but, according to the methods adopted to select the most appropriate model, Von Bertarlanffy showed the best fit. All models presented high and negative correlation between the A and k parameters, indicating that the most precocious animals are less likely to reach elevated weights for 210 days of age. Key words: Intensive system, nonlinear models, precocity, weight development ResumoO objetivo do presente trabalho foi analisar os modelos não lineares que melhor se ajustam ao crescimento de fêmeas da raça Ile de France. O experimento foi conduzido na Fazenda Escola Capão da Onça, localizada no município de Ponta Grossa -PR e para tanto, foram utilizados dados de peso ao nascimento até os 210 dias de idade de 34 fêmeas da raça Ile de France. Os animais apresentaram médias de peso ao nascer (PN) de 4,58 kg, peso a desmama (P60) de 19,58 kg e peso aos 210 dias (P210) igual a 43,18 kg, proporcionando ganho de peso médio diário do nascimento aos 210 dias (GMD) igual a 0,183 kg/dia. Os modelos não lineares utilizados foram: Brody, Von Bentarlanffy, Logístico e Gompertz, apresentando resultados, respectivamente, de 33,5453; 33,7120; 33,6714 ). Todos os modelos tenderam a descrever adequadamente a curva de crescimento destes animais, porém, de acordo com os métodos adotados para escolha do modelo mais adequado, Von Bertarlanffy apresentou o melhor ajuste. Non-linear models were analysed to describe both the biological and commercial growth curves of the Segureña sheep, one of the most important Spanish breeds. We evaluated Brody, von Bertalanffy, Verhulst, logistic and Gompertz models, using historical data from the National Association of Segureña Sheep Breeders (ANCOS). These records were collected between 2000 and 2013, from a total of 129 610 weight observations ranging from birth to adulthood. The aim of this research was to establish the mathematical behaviour of body development throughout this breed's commercial life (birth to slaughter) and biological life (birth to adulthood); comparison between both slopes gives important information regarding the best time for slaughter, informs dietary advice according to animals' needs, permits economical predictions of productions and, by using the curve parameters as selection criteria, enables improvements in growth characteristics of the breed. Models were fitted according to the non-linear regression procedure of statistical package SPSS version19. Model parameters were estimated using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Candidate models were compared using the determinative coefficient, mean square error, number of iterations, Akaike information coefficient and biological coherence of the estimated parameters. The von Bertalanffy and logistic models were found to be best suited to the biological and commercial growth curves, respectively, for both sexes. The Brody equation was found to be unsuitable for studying the commercial growth curve. Differences between the parameters in both sexes indicate a strong impact of sexual dimorphism on growth. This can emphasize the value of the highest growth rate for females, indicating that they reach maturity earlier.Keywords: growth, models, sex, sheep, Zootechny ImplicationsNon-linear models can be an option to establish the mathematical behaviour of body development throughout the life of the Segureña sheep breed. These models require lower computational and faster convergence than other methods. Moreover, in genetic evaluation programmes with large data sets, non-linear models are more advantageous. The results showed a strong impact of sexual dimorphism on growth.

resUMo Objetivou-se simular pesos de suínos machos e fêmeas (de 1 a 154 dias de idade) através da distribuição de probabilidade uniforme num intervalo [a,b]. Foram ajustados os modelos de regressão (logístico, potência, tangente hiperbólica, gamma e polinomial cúbico) para explicar a possível relação do peso com o número de dias dos suínos. Verificou-se que os modelos logístico, gamma e polinomial cúbico apresentaram as melhores estimativas para explicar o comportamento do peso dos suínos machos e fêmeas. O modelo logístico apresentou R²= 0,975 e AIC (critério de informação de Akaike)=13,34 para os machos e R²= 0,9787 e AIC= 10,16 para as fêmeas. O modelo gamma apresentou grau de explicação de R²= 0,991 e AIC= 99,33 para os machos e R²= 0,9941 e AIC= 90,602 para as fêmeas, enquanto que o modelo polinomial cúbico apresentou R= 0,9995 e AIC=64,2 para os machos e R²= 0,9995 e AIC= 31,728 para as fêmeas. Optouse pelo modelo polinomial cúbico para explicar o comportamento do peso simulado dos suínos, pois o mesmo apresentou R² alto e baixo AIC além de menos parâmetros que os outros modelos. This study aimed to simulate data to the weight of boar and pig sows (1 to 154 days old) through the uniform probability distribution on an interval [a, b]. Five regression models (logistic, hyperbolic tangent, power, gamma and cubic polynomial) were adjusted to account for the possible weight ratio to tage of pigs in days. The logistic and gamma cubic polynomial models showed the best estimates to account for the weight of the behavior of boar and sow pigs. The logistic model showed R² = 0.975 and AIC (Akaike's information criterium)= 13.34 for boars and R²= 0.9787 and AIC= 10.16 for sows. The gamma model presented a degree of explanation of R²= 0.991 and AIC= 99.33 for boars and R²= 0.9941 and AIC= 90.602 for sows, while the cubic polynomial model showed R²= 0.9995 and AIC= 64.2 for boars and R²= 0.9995 and AIC= 31.728 for sows. the cubic polynomial model was chosen to explain the behavior of the simulated weight of the pigs, whose model showed the best fit with fewer parameters than the other models.
