Evaluation of the solubility of the HPMC: PVA blends in biological fluids in vitro

Abstract: Polymers are often used to coat tablets for controlled drug release. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the solubility of the HPMC and PVA blend compared to isolated polymers in solutions with a pH of biological fluids (6 and 1.2) and the dissolution of capsules obtained using theophylline granules produced with the HPMC/ PVA 25/75 blend as a matrix and as coating. HPMC is completely solubilized in the medium that simulates the pH of the stomach and intestine, and PVA is the polymer that allows controlli… Show more

“…Therefore, we also prepared two‐layered HPMC/PVA‐Eudragit L100 coatings. In that case, HPMC/PVA is applied as inner layer and Eudragit L100 is applied as outer enteric coating layer to prevent the dissolution in the dissolving of drugs in the acidic stomach medium . Except chitosan, all polymers are water‐soluble above a pH of 5–6.…”

“…The peak at 2937 cm −1 was attributed to C–H stretching vibration in an alkane. The peaks at 1048 and 1104 cm −1 are assigned to C–O stretching in hydroxyl group (Bianchi et al 2011 ; Rustemkyzy et al 2015 ). Figure 5 c shows the FTIR spectrum of film containing RB with optimized formulation.…”

“…41 Polymeric surfactants are often not counted as surfactants, however, because they occur in many formulated products (such as dispersants, emulsifiers, foam boosters, and viscosity modifiers), and could be around 10% of the surfactant market in 2000, in products as poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide) block copolymers, ethoxylated or sulfonated resins, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and other polysaccharide derivatives, polyacrylates, xanthane, etc. 41 Carboxymethyl cellulose, generally used as a sodium salt (NaCMC), is one of the most widely used polyelectrolyte cellulose derivatives. NaCMC is an anionic, water soluble, polyelectrolyte with vast applications in the food, pharmaceutical, personal care/cosmetic, paper, and other industries.…”
