Bending characteristics of resin concretes

Abstract: In this research work the influence of composition and curing conditions in bending strength of polyester and epoxy concrete is analyzed. Various mixtures of resin and aggregates were considered in view of an optimal combination. The Taguchi methodology was applied in order to reduce the number of tests, and in order to evaluate the influence of various parameters in concrete properties. This methodology is very useful for the planning of experiments. Test results, analyzed by this methodology, shown that the … Show more

“…Plain polymer mortar specimens were also casted and tested in order to compare mechanical and functional properties with those of GFRP waste admixed mortars. The composition of plain formulation was developed in previous studies on statistical significance of synergetic effects between material components [42,43].…”

“…Planning of experiments and data treatment were performed by means of full factorial design and through appropriate statistical tools based on analyses of variance (ANOVA). These methodologies have shown to be powerful tools in the optimisation processes of mixtures, mix designs and processing parameters e.g., [40][41][42].…”

“…The mix design of the reference PM formulation was in accordance with previous studies carried out by Ribeiro et al (2003b), in which a polyester resin binder with similar viscosity was applied. With a basis on the reference PM formulation, different PM formulations were prepared by mixing the resin binder, with and without silane coupling agent additive, with different sand aggregates/GFRP waste ratios.…”

“…Added value of the recycling solution was assessed by means of flexural and compressive load carrying capacities of GFRP admixed mortars with regard to unmodified PMs. The planning of experiments and data treatment were accomplished by means of full factorial design and through appropriate statistical tools based on analyses of variance, which over the last years have shown to be powerful tools in the optimization processes of mixtures, mix designs and processing parameters (Correia et al, 2009(Correia et al, , 2010Muthukumar and Mohan, 2004;Ribeiro et al, 2003b).…”

“…PM was first developed in the 1950's and then became widely known in the 1970's 1 . The composition of PM is determined by its applications, and its strength is influenced by ratio of aggregate to resin content 2,3 . PM is used very efficiently in precast components.…”
