Medicinal plant extracts on the control of Diabrotica speciosa (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

Abstract: RESUMO: Extratos de plantas medicinais no controle de Diabrotica speciosa (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae). Show more

“…Also, saponins have shown high solubility in the haemolymph of the grasshopper Shistocerca gregaria [ 24]. Tannins are capable to deactivate digestive enzymes by forming a tannin-protein complex difficult to digest by the grasshopper S. Gregaria [25]. The presence of saponins in the two aqueous plant extracts may therefore explain the significant (p < 0.05) increase of the meiotic abnormalities mean frequency.…”

“…Ageratum conyzoides infusion contain saponins, triterpenoids (terpenes) and phlobatannins while A. conyzoides maceration contain alkaloids, tannins (phenols) and cardiac glycosides. Tannins are capable to deactivate digestive enzymes by forming a tannin-protein complex, difficult to digest by the grasshopper S. gregaria [18]. Various terpenoids (tetra-cyclic terpenes and tetranortriterpenoids) contained in A. indica (neem) are responsible for it antifeedent activity [8].…”

“…In another study, topical application of Azadirachta indica, Mangifera indica, Polyalthia longifolia, Annona squamosa and Ficus benghalensis caused a 100% mortality of bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) after 19 seconds of contact [239]. The effectiveness of plant extracts on insects is credited to the solvents used and their ability to extract major compounds with insecticidal properties [240] [241].…”
