Assessment of energy and macronutrient intake in young men: a comparison of 4-day food record and 24-hour dietary recall

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: The objective was to assess the quantitative agreement between a 4-day food record and a 24-hour dietary recall in young men. METHODS: Thirty-four healthy men aged 18-25 years had their food intake estimated by 4-day food record within one week following 24-hour dietary recall in a cross-sectional study. Resting metabolic rate was assessed by indirect calorimetry and Energy Expenditure was estimated by physical activity records completed simultaneously with food intake records. The validity of food … Show more

“…Few studies observed similar or lower energy and nutrient intakes with dietary history interviews in comparison with food records [ 41 43 ] or 24-h recalls [ 12 ]. Regarding 24-h recalls and food records, several studies found comparable or only slightly different results between these two methods [ 30 , 44 46 ]. This is confirmed by the present study which also shows comparable nutrient intake estimates of 24-h recalls and weighed food records.…”

“…Similar problems have also been noted in national nutrition surveys, including those conducted in Thailand [ 70 , 71 ]. The 24-hour dietary recall relies on the respondents' memory, and the food record has a heavy record-keeping burden, showing, in some cases, that energy intakes decrease with increasing days of reporting the food consumption [ 72 ].…”

“…A nutrigenômica é uma ciência que estuda a influência de nutrientes sobre a expressão de genes em diferentes tipos celulares, incluindo também o estudo de fatores genéticos que podem alterar a função e/ou expressão de genes envolvidos na absorção, metabolismo, eliminação ou efeitos biológicos de nutrientes (Norheim et al, 2012). (Biró et al, 2002;Liberato et al, 2009;Shim et al, 2014).…”
