Insulin-like growth factor II gene Apa I polymorphism is not associated with endometriosis susceptibility

Abstract: Insulin-like growth factor II (IGF2) has been shown to play a role in abnormal cell growth and carcinogenesis. We investigated if the IGF2 gene Apa I polymorphism at exon 9 was associated with the susceptibility to endometriosis, analyzing 120 women with moderate/severe endometriosis and 103 controls. The genotype frequencies did not differ statistically between the endometriosis (aa = 25.4, ab = 57.4, bb = 17.2%) and control (aa = 20.8 ab = 52.8, bb = 26.4%) groups. The allele frequencies did not differ eithe… Show more

“…In our previous reports, we observed a positive correlation of endometriosis with IL-1 (IL-1β-511 promoter, IL-1β exon 5) and p53 polymorphisms (Hsieh et al, 2001a,b;Chang et al, 2002). We also noted the non-correlation of endometriosis with the insulin growth factor (Hsieh et al, 2003), IL-4, TNF, and p21 . In this series, using the DdeI restriction enzyme polymorphism in exon 509 of TGF, we tried to evaluate whether this TGF-B1 polymorphism is a useful marker for predicting susceptibility to endometriosis.…”

“…The insulin-like growth factor II (IGF2) ApaI polymorphism was not found to be associated with endometriosis in Taiwanese women ( Hsieh et al ., 2004c ). Also, a polymorphism in the TGF beta 1 gene (509C/T) was not associated with deep infiltrating endometriosis in Dutch women ( van Kaam et al ., 2007a ).…”
