Thirty turtle brains (Trachemys scripta elegans) were injected with latex to systematize and describe the internal carotid arteries and their main ramifications at the brain base. The internal carotid arteries had one intercarotid anastomosis. At the level of the tuber cinereum, the internal carotid artery bifurcated into its terminal branches, the rostral and the caudal branches. The rostral branch emitted the rostral choroid artery, the orbital artery, and a series of middle cerebral arteries. After giving off the last middle cerebral artery, the rostral branch continued as the rostral cerebral artery in the cerebral longitudinal fissure, and had one anastomosis with its contralateral homologous artery, the rostral communicating artery, making the first rostral closure of the cerebral arterial circle. Next, the rostral cerebral arteries anastomosed forming a rostral interhemispheric artery, making the second rostral closure of the cerebral arterial circle. The internal carotid artery, after emitting its rostral branch, continued caudally as the caudal branch. The caudal branch ran caudally along the ventral surface of the mesencephalic tegmentum, emitted the caudal cerebral artery and the mesencephalic artery, and continued caudomedially while progressively narrowing, and anastomosed with its contralateral homologous artery, forming the basilar artery. The narrower portion also emitted the trigeminal artery. The anastomosis of the caudal branches closed the cerebral arterial circle caudally. The internal carotid arteries exclusively supplied the cerebral arterial circle of the turtle.

No Brasil, 31 espécies de quelônios são registradas, entretanto duas espécies se destacam, sendo o Jabuti-piranga (Chelonoidis carbonaria) e o Jabuti-tinga (Chelonoidis denticulata). Apesar de ser um animal silvestre, a criação de jabutis e o convívio destes com humanos têm aumentado, da mesma maneira, a prática de consumo deste animal e seus ovos é descrita em relatos históricos e culturais. Uma vasta diversidade de parasitas pode ser encontrada em répteis silvestres e de estimação, dentre esses, parasitas pertencentes aos nematódeos, cestódeos, trematódeos e protozoários. Baseado em análises coproparasitológicas exploratórias realizadas pelo Laboratório de Patologia e Parasitologia Veterinária da Universidade Federal de Jataí, objetivou-se relatar casos de parasitismos por nematóide Sauricola spp. em Chelonoidis carbonaria advindos do Parque ecológico Diacuy localizado no município de Jataí, Goiás, Brasil. Foram coletadas amostras fecais de exemplares da espécie Chelonoidis carbonaria, com o propósito de investigação qualitativa de parasitas, processadas por técnica de flutuação e analisadas em lâminas temporárias em microscópio óptico. Foram encontrados ovos elipsóides de estrongilídeos, com casca fina e com tamanho aproximado de 100 μm, que foram identificados como ovos de Sauricola spp. Contudo, diante da carência de informações e relatos sobre o gênero Sauricola acredita-se ser o primeiro relato em Goiás,

Rules, formulas and statistical tests have been widely used in studies that use continuous variables in the normal or Gaussian distribution or other tests whose data fit this type of distribution (t and z distributions) and whose parameters can be defined. However, there are cases in which the model and goal of the scientific work allow only the use of discrete or nominal variables. The absence or presence of a structure or organ (muscles, nerves, blood vessels, bones, and ligaments), characteristics associated with these organs, such as the source of nerves, vessels and muscles and the distribution of nerves and vessels are discrete and / or nominal variables that do not fit the Gaussian distribution, nor of z or t, unless the measures of these structures are taken. A simple comparative method within the non-parametric distribution has been proposed, (1) between two different samples from the same species and (2) for two different species, based on the concepts of normal and variation in anatomy and on modal class in statistics here called Comparative Anatomy Index (IAC). The main findings on the use of this method are: (1) to allow the relationship between data from discrete or nominal variables in comparative anatomy or in other areas of morphology, (2) to generate an objective method (numerical) of comparison between samples of structures from the same species and between different species and (3) to fill the lack of a specific method for the statistical work in comparative anatomy or in morphology, in general.
