“…Studies about the origins and pathways of the right and left aortic arches in turtles reported that both arches originated cranial to the single ventricle (Hyman, ; Pisanó and Barbieri, ; Faria and Mariana, ), and from it, three large vessels were emitted (Hyman, ; Hyman, ; Pisanó and Barbieri, ): the pulmonary trunk, and the left and the right aortic arches (Hyman, ; Voll et al, ). According to some authors, these aortic arches intercrossed soon after they left the heart and passed lateral to the cervical region, with the left aortic arch passing by the left of the esophagus and dorsal to the stomach and the right aortic arch passing dorsal to the liver and merging with the left aortic arch to form the dorsal aorta (Pisanó and Barbieri, ; Faria and Mariana, ; Voll et al, ). In this study, the right and left aortic arches also originated cranial to the ventricle and were located in the same reported anatomical positions; however, the aortic arches did not intercross after they left the heart.…”

“…Mode is the most appropriate measure to be considered in this study. Therefore, the percentage, which is one of the key measures in statistics (Monteiro-Filho) and indicates the frequency of a structure, is a good quantitative method to be used, sometimes the only appropriate, as shown in some scientific articles on anatomy (Ferreira et al, 1997;Faria & Mariana, 2001;Murta et al, 2002;Silva & Ferreira, 2002).…”
