Fraturas transtrocanterianas: uso de alendronato no pós-operatório

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the results of the use of alendronate sodium in postoperative transtrochanteric femoral fractures. Method: Over a six-month period, 75 patients were treated at the Orthopedic Service for transtrochanteric femoral fractures, undergoing surgery with 135 degree DHS plate fixation. We selected 19 patients who were healthy, cooperative, previously unable to walk, classified as type III according to Tronzo, whose contralateral hips had not undergone any previous surgery, enabling the evaluatio… Show more

“…A higher incidence was observed in female patients (74.4%); this finding is consistent with the literature, which indicates a ratio of two to five women for every man. 1 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 9 , 13 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 The mean age of patients included in the study was 79.84 years, similar to that found in the literature. 1 , 3 , 17 , 21 , 22 …”

“…However, it was not a paired study comparing patients with and without osteoporosis. 19 Regarding the effect of alendronate on bone healing in fractures in oophorectomized rats, the study by Cao et al (2002) reported that this drug does not prevent the onset of fracture healing and callus formation, however, continued use prevents the bone remodeling process for a long period. 7 Systematic review in humans carried out by Molvik and Khan (2015) reports that for distal radius fractures bisphosphonate use was associated with a significantly longer time to healing.…”
