Quantification of leaf greenness and leaf spectral profile in plant diagnosis using an optical scanner

Abstract: Observation of leaf spectral profile (color) enables suitable management measures to be taken for crop production. An optical scanner was used: 1) to obtain an equation to determine the greenness of plant leaves and 2) to examine the power to discriminate among plants grown under different nutritional conditions. Sweet basil seedlings grown on vermiculite were supplemented with one-fifth-strength Hoagland solutions containing 0, 0.2, 1, 5, 20, and 50 mM NH 4 + . The 5 mM treatment resulted in the greatest leaf… Show more

“…The rectangular pad of the test strip was optically scanned 9 using an Epson ES-2000 optical scanner. 10,11 Each test strip was scanned at 300 dots per inch in the colour mode. The images of the test strips were saved as JPEG les, and spectral proles of the rectangular pads were obtained by reading the intensity values of red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and L* and values of a* and b* with Adobe Photoshop™ 7.0 computer soware.…”

“…1 Spatial unevenness in leaf color abnormalities is common in actual agricultural fields, and observation is facilitated by remote sensing of the whole field. The precise observation of crop canopies, as an assembly of leaves, is becoming more feasible as a result of recent development in remote sensing technologies such as balloons with remotely controlled digital cameras in addition to the most advanced remote sensing sensors.…”

“…Há diversos tipos no mercado, sendo comum o scanner de mesa, que gera padrões diversos como o formato TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), que oferece relativamente elevado número de cores de alta qualidade de imagem. Foi mostrada a viabilidade de utilização de scanner óptico na obtenção de imagem digital de folhas, que permite calcular a intensidade do verde da folha (Doi, 2012).…”
