Show more

“…Among the various existing species of predator insects, those belonging to the family Chrysopidae play an important role as regulators of the populations of agricultural pests. The green lacewings are predators with high reproductive capacity and great voracity and may feed on the eggs and small caterpillars of moths, aphids, mealybugs, whiteflies, psyllids, among others (AUAD et al, 2007;BARBOSA et al, 2008;GONÇALVES-GERVÁSIO;SANTA-CECÍLIA, 2001; PITWAK; MENEZES JR; VENTURA, 2016). There are reports that Chrysoperla externa (Hagen) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) is effective for the control of Planococcus citri (Risso, 1813) (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), L. coffeella and phytophagous mites on trees, and can be used to regulate the population of these pests (BEZERRA et al, 2006;ECOLE et al, 2002;SILVA et al, 2006).…”

“…Larvae and adults of this species are widely found in various crop ecosystems in Brazil naturally preying on pest species (Barbosa et al, 2008). Under natural conditions other color than green in the adult body of C. externa has not been observed.…”

“…Under natural conditions other color than green in the adult body of C. externa has not been observed. Larvae and adults of this species are widely found in various crop ecosystems in Brazil naturally preying on pest species (Barbosa et al, 2008). As a consequence of the potential importance of C. externa in programs of biological control and integrated pest management, the species has been the target of recent studies of its biology, behavior, mass rearing, inundative and augmentative release, and response to insecticides (Tapaj os et al, 2016;Luna et al, 2018).…”
